Miranda Kerr (born February 20, 1983) is an Australian fashion model who is currently based in New York City. Discovered by Dolly magazine in 1997, Miranda is now one of the modelling world's rising stars. She is best known for campaigns with Maybelline, Victoria's Secret and Australian fashion chain-store Portmans.

Biography

Kerr was born in Sydney, Australia, and raised in the small rural country town of Gunnedah, which has a population of 8000. She is the eldest child of Therese and John Kerr, and has a younger brother named Matthew. She was educated at All Hallows' in Brisbane, all-girl catholic high school.

At the age of 13, Kerr won Australian teenage magazine Dolly/Impulse Covergirl Competition in 1997[1] because her friends entered her into it. Miranda signed a modelling contract with Melbourne's Chadwick agency, followed by Sydney's Chic agency. Kerr modelled part-time while she was studying, and as her profile increased, local media used her youth as an opportunity to debate about pedophilia in the fashion industry. "All the media attention was absolutely ludicrous. I don't think it would have mattered how old I was, they would have still made it out to be something it wasn't. I was more concerned about Dolly magazine's reputation. I was fine, I just didn't didn't take any notice of it all," she said at the time. [1]

Career

Kerr became the face of popular Australian fashion chain store Portmans. She had soon conquered the local fashion world, with frequent stints in Australia and New Zealand's top fashion magazines, fashion catalogues and catwalk shows. As well as this, she appeared in television adverts for brands such as Portmans, Bonds and Veet. [2]

In 2004, at the age of 21, Kerr moved to New York City and was signed to Next agency. To date, Miranda has modelled for the likes of Baby Phat, Lisa Ho, Voodoo Dolls, Levi's, Bettina Liano, Nicola Finetti, L.A.M.B, Heatherette, Betsey Johnson, Trelise Cooper, Jets, John Richmond, Blumarine Swimwear, Seafolly Swimwear, Victoria's Secret, Anna Molinari, Roberto Cavalli, Enrico Coveri, Arden B, Cia Maritima, Amuleti J, and magazines such as Elle, Oyster, Madison, Australian Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and more. [3]

In 2006, Miranda signed a deal with Maybelline New York, and featured in numerous print campaigns. As well as this, in one of her most high-profile campaigns yet, Kerr became the first Australian to be chosen as a Victoria's Secret runway Angel. Kerr was recently seen in Victoria's Secret's popular "Angels, Wireless" commercial, wearing animated wings and reciting a limerick. The advert is available to be viewed on youTube. [4]

Kerr was recently signed as the face of Californian fashion retailer Arden B. After debuting in their Spring and Summer ad campaigns, Kerr returned for their Fall 2007 campaign, shot by world- renowned fashion photographer Diego Uchitel. [5]

Personal life

In early 2007, she was linked romantically to Hollywood star Orlando Bloom, but this turned out to be a publicity stunt set up by some New York real estate developers. The same group had also offered celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan free use of their apartments, in order to generate attention towards their project. [6]

Kerr has a self-described "amazing friendship" with actress Eliska Amor.[2]

She is currently dating Australian musician/ model Brent Tuhtan, who is in a band called Tamarama and recently scored an international Diesel jeans campaign. The couple live in Kerr's $1 million dollar New York City uptown apartment.

Miscellaneous

Kerr features in the Kanye West/ Pharrell Williams music video "Number One". [7]

She also features in her boyfriend's music video, Tamarama's "Everything To Me", which is available to be viewed on youTube. [8]

Kerr has a Yorkshire Terrior named Frankie. [9]
