Salman Khan (born Abdul Rashid Salman Khan on December 27, 1965 Hindi: सलमान ख़ान, Urdu: سلمان خان, pronunciation: /səlmɑːn xɑːn/), is a popular Indian film actor who appears in Bollywood movies. He has been considered as one of the biggest stars in the industry since the late 1980s till present.
Biography
Indian Film Industry's most famous actor Salman Khan is a person whom youth always look up to. Salman has played a great role in the Indian Film History. His best Shah-Rukh Khan has awarded him with Indian Film Industry one and only Super Star. Salman Khan is one of the actor who doesn't care about his film's outcome. To him enjoy filming is more important with great attempt to make it successful. Salman Khan is planning on opening a Salman Khan Foundation that will help the needy.
Career
Salman made his acting debut in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi where he played a supporting role.
His first leading role in a Bollywood movie, was in Rajshri Productions's romantic film Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The film went on to become one of India's top-grossing movies. [1] It also won him a Filmfare Best Debut Award, (1990) and a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. The film also marked the debut of Rajshri director Sooraj Barjatya.
His second venture with director Sooraj Barjatya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) remains one of Indian cinema's highest grossing films ever.[1][2] It was responsible for drawing film-viewers back to the Cinema rather than watching pirated videos
Since his success in Maine Pyar Kiya, Salman has appeared in many films, of which many have done well at the box office and some have not done as well. However, his box office successes have been numerous enough that he is still considered one of the top three stars in Bollywood.[2]
Some of his biggest box office hits since his debut include Sanam Bewafa (1991), Saajan (1991), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999), Biwi No.1 (1999), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), Baghban (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005), and No Entry (2005).
His recent releases included Jaan-E-Mann (2006), Baabul (2006), and Salaam E Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007). None of these releases have done as well at the box office as expected. He is scheduled to appear in his first Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India, which will open in the US in August 2007.One of his other big mega budget ventures include Kalash (2008),directed by talk-show titan Vipin Handa,of Uff Yeh Mohabbat fame in 2008.
Personal life
Salman is the first son of screen writer Salim Khan and his wife Salma Khan. He has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. Both of them are actors; They have 2 sisters, Alveera and Arpita.
Legal Issues
- September 28, 2002. Salman was arrested for rash and negligent driving. He was under the influence of alcohol and his car veered onto a sidewalk outside a bakery in Mumbai. His close friend singer Kamaal Khan and police body guard Ravindra Patil were also in the car. One person who was sleeping on the sidewalk died and three others were injured.[3] Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped.[4] However, some legal action in this case appears to be on-going.[5]
- February 17, 2006. Salman was sentenced to one year in prison[6] for hunting an endangered species, the Chinkara. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal.
- April 10, 2006. Salman was handed a five year jail term for hunting the endangered Chinkara. He was remanded to Jodhpur jail, and remained there until April 13, when he was granted bail.[7]
Relationship Issues
He previously dated former Miss India and actress Sangeeta Bijlani (now Ayesha Azhar) and actress Somy Ali.
- His turbulent relationship with former Miss World Aishwarya Rai filled gossip columns. Her parents lodged a complaint against him[8].
- In 2005, news outlets released what was said to be an illicit copy of a mobile phone call recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police. It appeared to be a call in which he threatened his ex-girlfriend, Aishwarya Rai, in an effort to force her to appear at social events held by Mumbai crime figures. The call featured boasts of connections to organized crime and derogatory comments about other actors. [9]The alleged tape was tested in the Government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh, which concluded that it was a fake.[10]
He is currently dating Katrina Kaif.

- He wrote and starred in the movie Chandramukhi. It didn't do too well at the box office but it came at a time when few films were made with child audiences in mind. Salman is said to currently be writing a 2nd script titled 'Veer'.
