HA Schult (born June 24, 1939 as Hans-Jürgen Schult in Parchim ) is a German artist who became known through object and action art . His most famous works include the wing car in Cologne and the Trash People exhibited worldwide .

Life

HA Schult was born in Parchim in 1939 and grew up in Berlin. From 1958 to 1961 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . From 1961 to 1978 he lived in Munich, from 1978 to 1980 in Cologne and from 1978 to 1986 in New York. In 1986 he founded the Museum for Action Art in Essen. From 1986 to 1991 he commuted between Germany and New York, and from 1991 to 1992 he lived in Berlin. In 1992 he moved his museum from Essen to Cologne.

The ÖkoGlobe, which he initiated, has been awarded annually to the mobility industry as the first international environmental prize since 2007 . In 2009, together with Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, he became the founding director of the ÖkoGlobe Institute at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Schult realized numerous actions in collaboration with his muse and former wife Elke Koska and in recent years also with the violinist and performer Anna Zlotovskaya from Moscow , with whom he has been married for the fourth time since 2010. Schult is the father of two sons; one is the film and television director and Grimm Prize winner Kolin Schult .

HA Schult took part in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 with the Biokinetic Landscape and was also represented as an artist in Documenta 6 in 1977 . In the 2009 Bundestag election campaign, Schult campaigned for the continuation of Angela Merkel's chancellorship .

"Aktion 20,000 km" (1970), "Venezia Vive" (Venice, 1976), "Crash" (New York, 1977), "Ruhr Tour" (Ruhr area, 1978), "Now" (New York, 1983), "New York is Berlin" (1985, he showed a replica of the Berlin Wall with the Brandenburg Gate in the New York Guggenheim Museum), "Fetisch Auto" (Cologne, 1989), "Marble Time" and "The War" (St. Petersburg , 1994) and “Rheingeist” (Rhineland, 1996). In 1998 HA Schult realized the “Friedensspeicher” in Osnabrück and in 2010/11 “Corona save the Beach Hotel” in Rome and Madrid.

This was followed in 2014 by the tableaus “Home-Heimat” in Siegburg and “WIR das Tier” at the Tollwood Festival in Munich.

In 2015 he showed the tableaus “Ratinger Freiheit” in the Andreas-Quartier in Düsseldorf and “endes Karl Marx ”in the Museum Karl-Marx-Haus in Trier. From 2015 to 2016, the ActionBlue environmental project was created for the global event at the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe . On September 30, 2016, the "Freedom Wall" was unveiled in Hamburg.

They were then exhibited in Cairo and Giza (2002), Zermatt (2003), Kilkenny Castle (2003), Gorleben (2004) and 2005 in Brussels . Until May 1, 2006, the one thousand 1.80 m tall figures pressed out of garbage could be seen on Roncalliplatz in front of Cologne Cathedral .

The Trash People made a stop in Rome's Piazza del Popolo , and from June 4, 2007 they began populating Plaça Reial in Barcelona before being shown in Syracuse . According to the energy supplier RheinEnergie AG, the value of a single figure is around two euros in calorific value. In March 2011, the Trash People visited the Arctic and were set up in the Adventdalen river valley near the settlement Longyearbyen on Svalbard . Before the figures were brought to the museum, they could be seen in Telgte in the Münsterland in 2011 and in Mochental in 2013. In 2014 they stood in April in Ariel Sharon Park with a view of Tel Aviv and in September on Place Clairefontaine in Luxembourg . In August 2016 the Trash People were guests at Schinkelplatz in Berlin and also in December 2017 at Werderscher Markt in Berlin. Exhibitions in Chile and Lhasa in Tibet are in preparation .

Hotel Europe 1999 Troisdorf The hotel ruins of the building contractor Franz Kaiser on the A 59 near Troisdorf , known as the Kaiserbau, were transformed by Schult into the Hotel Europa in 1999 . 130 large-format portraits of well-known personalities adorned the facade of the shell from the 1970s. The project was originally planned as a long-term installation and tourist attraction, but since the forecast visitors did not come, the city of Troisdorf let the contract with Schult expire after one year. ÖkoGlobe

The ÖkoGlobe was an internationally recognized environmental award for the mobility industry initiated by HA Schult in 2007, which was awarded annually to particularly environmentally friendly cars . The ÖkoGlobe was awarded annually until 2012 by HA Schult, DEVK Deutsche Eisenbahn Versicherung , ACV Automobil-Club Verkehr , the ÖkoGlobe Institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen, founded in June 2009, and a jury of scientists, politicians and company representatives in ten different categories . The patronage was the Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety adopted. In 2011 the marketing journal dealt with the Ökoglobe brand in one issue.
