The HC 05 Banská Bystrica is a Slovak ice hockey club in the city of Banská Bystrica , which was founded in 2005 and has been playing in the Slovak extra league since 2008 . The club plays its home games in the Zimní stadium Banská Bystrica , which holds 3,000 spectators.
history
Between 1933 and 2005 there was an ice hockey club in Banská Bystrica, which was last called SaHK Iskra Banská Bystrica and played in the second-rate first division . This club was dissolved in 2005. Then the HC 05 Banská Bystrica was founded , which was champions of the first division in 2006 and 2008 and rose to the extra division in 2008.
From 2014 the club acted as the farm team of HC Slovan Bratislava from the Continental Hockey League , which proved to be very successful and gave the club the financial means to sign more foreign players. This sporting improvement led to winning the Slovak championship for the first time in 2017 . The club also qualified for participation in the Champions Hockey League . Winning the championship could be repeated in the following two years.
