The 1983/84 season was the 45th season of the 1st divisjon , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Sparta Sarpsborg became champions for the first time in the club's history . The Viking IK was relegated to the second division.
mode
In the main round, each of the eight teams played a total of 28 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. The last placed in the main round rose directly to the second division, while the penultimate had to compete in the relegation against the runner-up in the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
