The 1985/86 season was the 47th season of the 1st divisjon , the highest Norwegian ice hockey division . Stjernen became champions for the second time in the club's history . The Forward Flyers were relegated to the second division.

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 36 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. The last two placed in the main round had to compete in the Kvalserien against the first two placed in the second division to stay relegated. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
