100 words of the century

100 words of the century was the title of a media network from 3sat , DeutschlandRadio Berlin , Süddeutsche Zeitung and Suhrkamp Verlag . In 1999, a collection of 100 words that were seen as particularly indicative of the 20th century was presented on public television and radio , in a national newspaper and in a book.

Organization and jury

The words were selected by a jury of prominent personalities from the fields of journalism , literature and television on the initiative of the 3sat editorial team at Kulturzeit . The project was sponsored by the Society for German Language e. V. scientifically supported.
