1981 250 mile Daytona race, 2nd race
The second 250-mile race of Daytona in 1981 , also the 1981 IMSA National Championship Final (Camel GT 250), Daytona International Speedway , took place on November 29 of this year at Daytona International Speedway . It was the 22nd and final run of the IMSA GTP series in 1981 .
The race
Since Brian Redman had secured the overall ranking of the drivers of the series before the final run in Daytona, this event was no longer relevant for the championship. However, the race was one of the most exciting of the season. Almost the entire race distance, Redman and John Paul Jr. fought a tough duel for victory. The lead changed several times and after almost two hours of driving, Paul had a lead of 1.1 seconds over the second-placed Redman.
