2raumwohnung is a German electro-pop duo that was founded around 2000 in Berlin . Members are the singer Inga Humpe and her partner Tommi Eckart . They reached the high point of their career so far with the album 36 Grad , which was in the German music charts for 33 weeks . Their most successful single was the released title of the same name. In addition, 2raumwohnung are also recognized on the international stage through appearances at the Expo 2010 or their work as a DJ team .

2raumwohnung got to know each other in the eastern part of Berlin, where they had already settled shortly after the reunification . Inga Humpe was previously a singer with Neonbabies and DÖF , Tommi Eckart worked with DJ Hell , Ralf Hertwig and Andreas Dorau , among others . According to their own statement, 2raumwohnung have lived in a relationship since 1993. The band had their first appearance in 2001 in Sternradio , a legendary club on Alexanderplatz . They had already been active as a studio project before, their music was used under a pseudonym in advertising for Cabinet (song We met in a garden ) and the Unicredit Bank, for example. The latter backed a television commercial for the introduction of the euro with the title 2 of Millions of Stars , the origin of which, however, was not known to the general public at the time.

The first album was released on July 2, 2001 under the title Come Together . It contained a total of 13 titles and was still directed by Goldrush and the record label BMG . The reviews were mostly positive and ranged from a “new lightness” to “esoteric children's disco”. Due to the successful sale, a remix version of Kommt together was also produced in January 2002 , in which they combined house and electronic elements . In September of the same year In Real appeared , with which the duo could seamlessly build on the success of the first album. According to some critics, the charm that characterized the last album was lacking in large parts , but it nonetheless rose to fifth place in the German charts straight away. 2raumwohnung were for real in the German Dance Award as the Best Album. In August 2004, Es wird Morgen followed , the next work, which contained a total of twelve tracks and was available in three CD variations. Reviewers put the songs in the tradition of the music of the 1980s and attested 2raumwohnung an "impressive musical maturity", albeit a certain insignificance. The tour belonging to Es wird Morgen led 2raumwohnung through Germany and occasionally through neighboring European countries. As opening act occurred Jansen and Kowalski on. The summer album Melancholisch Schön followed in 2005 , for which 2raumwohnung selected twelve of their most famous songs and remixed them in bossa nova style . For the album 36 Grad , which was released in February 2007 after a short break, 2raumwohnung composed two songs with Peter Plate von Rosenstolz and the producer Ulf Leo Sommer. With the single Good as It Gets reached the duo in advance for the first time immediately a place in the top thirty in the German charts, as well as it was used in a commercial of the AOK . The second decoupling 36 degrees was even more successful and entered directly among the top ten. The single became one of the summer hits of 2007 and continued to be played frequently in the following years. Inga Humpe herself described the title as her Last Christmas , it has a long shelf life and is constantly being revised. In fact, she published Rhythms del Mundo in 2008, for example , on which Cuban musicians worked on a revised version of 36 degrees with a 2-room apartment . Also represented were Rosenstolz, Culcha Candela , Ich + Ich and Jan Delay .

From a commercial point of view, 36 Grad was 2raumwohnung's most successful album to date, it reached number 63 in the 2007 annual charts. Various remixes were also produced with Paul van Dyk and Oliver Huntemann, among others . The 36 Grad tour in summer 2007 took the duo to a total of 17 cities, including Berlin , Cologne and Munich , but also Vienna and Zurich . Subsequently, 2raumwohnung published a video DVD under 36 degrees Live , on which the entire concert in Berlin's Columbiahalle as well as additional performances from 2003 to 2005 are included.

After no new album was released in 2008, Lasso was finally released in August 2009 . The name was chosen based on Orlando di Lasso . The work contained a total of 13 pieces, including the singles We'll See and Save Me Later . Although Lasso could not quite build on the success of 36 Degrees , reviewers certified the album's ability to translate the "attitude towards life of Berliners into generally understandable musical language". Inga Humpe admitted in an interview that the urban jungle had a major influence on her latest work. 2raumwohnung also went on tour with Lasso ( Lasso Tour 2009 ), together with the German-American-Persian musician Malakoff Kowalski . Lasso also released a remix album in 2010, in collaboration with Paul Kalkbrenner , Blake Baxter and Abe Duque , among others .

In 2010, the band's management announced that they would play two guest appearances on the soap opera Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten . The episodes were broadcast on February 12th and 15th, with 2raumwohnung presenting both the title 36 Degrees and Save me later in the so-called masonry . The appearance served to promote the new album and the subsequent tour . In addition to the television kept 2raumwohnung its way into modern German literature: Sun dancing about in the novel Nachrückende generations of Oliver Bendel a boy we are the other . On September 6, 2013, the album was released . It was produced in Los Angeles , among others , and the first single Bei dir ich bin schön was released in August of the same year. In October and November 2013 and in March 2014 2raumwohnung went finished Caution on tour in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Their eighth album Nacht und Tag , the band's first double album, was released on June 16, 2017. The first single Somebody Lonely and Me from it was released in February 2017. In May 2017, Hotel Sunshine was followed by the second single, and in June the third single entitled I am the bass drum . The video for a remix comes from Helene Hegemann .

In 2018, 2raumwohnung gave a concert in the South Korean capital Seoul as part of the opening of the Winter Olympic Games .

In 2020, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, 2raumwohnung released a best-of album with two singles, including That's not the end of baby . Inga Humpe also presented a book entitled “We met in a garden”, which also deals with the duo's beginnings. The anniversary tour planned for spring 2020 has been postponed to autumn due to the coronavirus pandemic .

In April 2008, 2raumwohnung and around 200 other artists signed an open letter from the Federal Association of the Music Industry to Chancellor Angela Merkel , which could be read in the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , among others . In this they spoke out in favor of increased protection of intellectual property , which is particularly harmed by file sharing . As a result of the nuclear disaster in Fukushima , 2raumwohnung and other artists initiated another open letter and a vigil in front of the Federal Chancellery in 2011, with the aim of immediately phasing out nuclear power.

2raumwohnung represented German music several times at major international events. For example, the duo gave a concert on the German National Day at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai , alongside other artists such as Nobelpenner and Konrad Küchenmeister . In June 2010, at the invitation of the Goethe Institute and the German Embassy Pretoria , 2raumwohnung were guests at the 2010 soccer world championship in South Africa . They performed together with Frank Dellé at the Football meets Culture event .

2raumwohnung have also been active as a DJ team throughout their career and have performed in New York , for example . In 2008 they played as part of Moguai & Friends in Essen's Weststadthalle, and in 2003 (also together with Moguai ) during the Smirnoff Experience on Praterinsel .
