The Adam Müller Guttenbrunn Foundation ( AMG Foundation for short ) is a social and cultural institution in the Romanian city ​​of Timișoara (dt. Timişoara ). It was founded in 1994 with the support of the Interior Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany . It is named after the poet and cultural politician Adam Müller-Guttenbrunn .

The association on which this facility is based is the Banater Schwaben e. V. The relief organization was founded in 1989 on the initiative of Helmut Schneider . What began in 1989 with food parcels and aid shipments has developed into an important social project for the region. With the help of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Helmut Schneider was able to create a model project in 1994 with the Adam Müller Guttenbrunn House in Timișoara. The AMG House is the main part of the AMG Foundation.

Retirement home in Timisoara

The building , which is conveniently located on Strada Gheorghe Lazar , was put into operation in 1994. It includes an old people's home, a social station , a house chapel , a museum on the 5th floor and four guest rooms for the residents of the home.

In 2009, the house looked after 84 residents, meals on wheels were delivered to an average of 100 people every day , and around 70 senior citizens came to the house for lunch every day .

Branch offices

  • The Bakowa retirement home is the oldest branch and was founded in 2001. There 17 people are cared for in inpatient care , and around 40 villagers are also provided with meals on wheels . Around 40 children receive a warm meal every day in the dining room of the old people's home.
  • The Sanktanna nursing home was opened in 2002. There, 40 people are cared for in inpatient care, 20 people are provided with meals on wheels and 15 children are given a warm meal every day.
  • The Billed social station was founded in 1994. Here 20 people are cared for in outpatient care, they get a warm meal every day. A meal with meals on wheels is delivered to their home for those who can no longer collect their own food .
  • The Großsanktnikolaus social station was opened in 1994. Here, 20 people are cared for in outpatient care; they receive a warm meal every day, which is delivered to their home with meals on wheels .

Around 35% of the home residents are care recipients. Each house employs a nurse and a carer per home and shift .

Political area

The Democratic Forum of Germans in the Banat (DFDB for short) , which sees itself as the political organ of the German minority in the Banat, also has its seat in the AMG House . The forum was founded on January 5, 1990 to represent the interests of the remaining Banat people from the German ethnic group.

The first seat of the forum was in the Nikolaus-Lenau-Lyceum . Since the completion of the AMG house in 1994, the seat of the forum has been in the left wing of the house. Ovidiu Ganț is currently represented as a forum deputy in the Romanian parliament . The forum is also represented on the Timișoara city ​​council by Helene Wolf , director of the Nikolaus-Lenau-Lyceum. Karl Singer was chairman of the DFDB until 2014 . Since 2014 has Johann Fernbach presides.

The founding of the literary group Stafette under the direction of Annemarie Podlipny-Hehn has contributed significantly to the emergence of a new generation of young people. These are mainly students from the Nikolaus-Lenau-Lyceum who are not native German speakers , but who feel connected to the German language and culture.

Since 2002, students from the Nikolaus-Lenau-Lyceum have participated in the European literary competition every year . Numerous award winners have emerged from this literary circle.
