Adolf August Ludwig Thilo von Blumröder (born January 6, 1819 in Sondershausen , † December 26, 1894 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the Berlin house for invalids .

Adolf was a son of August von Blumröder and his wife Viktoria, born von Weise (1781-1832). His older brothers were the Fürstlich Schwarzburg-Sondershausen government councilor Adolf August Friedrich Karl von Blumröder (1813–1881) and the lieutenant colonel Günther Emil Adolf August von Blumröder (1816–1866).

Military career

Blumröder received his education at the Salzmann Institute in Schnepfenthal and at the grammar school in Sondershausen. He joined the 32nd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on April 7, 1837 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant at the end of September 1839 . From 1844 to 1851 he was adjutant and officer in charge of investigations in the 2nd Battalion. As part of a federal intervention, his battalion moved into the Electorate of Hesse in October 1851 and stayed in Kassel for a few months . Following this, Blumröder became company commander in the Fusilier Battalion, rose to Prime Lieutenant in March 1852 and worked in the same function in the 32nd Landwehr Regiment from October 1853 to 1857. In this position he became a captain in mid-April 1856 and commanded from May to October as a company commander in the 4th combined reserve battalion in Magdeburg . After Blumröder had been appointed company commander in mid-September 1858 , he was a company commander in the 1st Battalion in the 32nd Landwehr Regiment in Merseburg in 1859 for the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War . On April 3, 1866, he was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion in the 6th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 52 . In this capacity, Blumröder took part in the following war against Austria in the battles near Nachod , Skalitz , Schweinschädel and Königgrätz and was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords.

After the campaign, his regiment was used as occupation troops in the Kingdom of Saxony and he was promoted to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1868 . During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France in 1870 he was assigned to lead the 3rd Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 29 . In the Battle of Gravelotte , Blumröder was badly wounded by the shattering of the lower leg bones of the right leg. He received the Iron Cross 2nd class, was promoted to colonel on the occasion of the imperial proclamation in January 1871 and was appointed regimental commander at the end of the month.

As a result of his wounding, Blumröder was no longer fit for service. He was therefore released from his position as regimental commander on June 10, 1871 and transferred to the army officers. To recover, he spent two years in Jakob Hermann Bockenheimer's clinic in Frankfurt am Main . Under awarding of the character as a major general Blumroder became the on April 17th, 1875 disposition made.

With the appointment as commandant of the Berlin Invalidenhaus on April 30, 1878, Blumröder was reused. In this role he undertook considerable modernization work, such as the connection to the sewer system and the renovation of the facade of the disabled house. At the beginning of December 1883, Blumröder was given the character of Lieutenant General and, on the occasion of the festival in January 1889, the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring. At the beginning of April 1890 he celebrated his 50th anniversary in service and Kaiser Wilhelm II honored him with the Order of the Crown, 1st class. After his death on December 29, 1894, he was buried in the Berlin Invalidenfriedhof .

family

Blumröder married Justine Wilhelmine Wapler (1821-1852) on October 8, 1845 in Erfurt. After her death he married Ottilie Blandine Kroll (1834–1897) on September 26, 1858 in Erfurt. The marriages produced five children. His grandson was Hans-Adolf von Blumröder .
