Alfons Holtgreve

Alfons Holtgreve (* 1955 in Warburg ) is a German painter and graphic designer .

Life

He grew up as the son of the painter and art educator Heinrich Holtgreve in the old town of Warburg. After attending the Marianum Warburg high school and the Carolus Magnus high school in Marsberg , he studied art history at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1975 to 1977 and visual communication and graphic design at the University of Kassel from 1977 to 1982 . His formative teachers were Max Imdahl , Hans Georg Hillmann and Gunter Rambow . Several months of study abroad took him to Paris and New York City, among others .

Since 1983 he has been working as a freelance painter and graphic artist in Warburg. He became known in particular for his figural silhouettes, which have found widespread use on posters, book and CD covers and as newspaper illustrations. His extensive work also includes graphics, collages, drawings, paintings, textile designs and painted ceramics.

In addition to his work as a freelance artist, he works as a graphic artist and designer for publishers and industrial companies. His clients include the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Die Zeit , Der Spiegel , S. Fischer Verlag , Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag , Stiftunglesen , Deutsche Grammophon , Sandoz , Nike , Philips , Haniel , Andersen Consulting , frog design , Siemens Nixdorf , Zwiesel Kristallglas , BASF , Fluxus , Bayer AG , H. & G. Meister AG, among others

1989–1990 he taught at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg , 1990–1993 at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main and 1996–2000 at the University of Kassel.
