August Alfred von Fiedler (born June 6, 1834 in Pillau ; † February 5, 1906 in Naumburg (Saale) ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Alfred was a son of the Prussian captain Friedrich August von Fiedler (1781-1838) and his wife Dorothea, née Kohrsch (1801-1836).

Military career

After the early death of his parents, Fiedler visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . Subsequently, on April 27, 1852, he was transferred to the 5th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army in Danzig as a characterized Portepeefähnrich . By mid-February 1853 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and in the late summer of 1856 he was in command of the rifle factory for three months. From September 1857 to March 1858 he was assigned to the Central Gymnastics Institute and from mid-September 1858 to the end of April 1859 as a gymnastics teacher at the United Divisional School of the 1st Army Corps . After a year as an educator at the Cadet House in Potsdam, Fiedler rose to Prime Lieutenant in November 1860 and was transferred to the 8th East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 45 in Graudenz at the end of February 1861 . As leader of the mobile 12th company, he took part in the battles near Trautenau and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . During the war, Fiedler advanced to captain and company commander at the end of July 1866 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class with swords , for his work .

In the war against France in 1870/71, Fiedler led the 12th Company in the battles near Colombey , Gravelotte and Noisseville and the sieges of Metz and La Fère . He was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and after the peace treaty on February 13, 1875 aggregated and promoted to major in his regiment . At the end of May 1875 he was transferred to the 3rd Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 20 in Wittenberg . In mid-December 1875, Fiedler was given command of the 2nd Battalion, was in this capacity in mid-September 1881 lieutenant colonel and in mid-November 1883 was promoted to the regular staff officer. On March 16, 1886, he was initially commissioned with the command of the 5th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 42 under position à la suite . On May 15, 1886 he became a colonel and regimental commander. At the end of the autumn maneuvers of the II Army Corps , Fiedler received the Order of the Red Eagle III in mid-September 1887. Fiedler married on February 8, 1861 in Danzig with Johanna Countess von Rittberg (1837–1869). After her death, he married her sister Elisabeth (1842–1925) in Wittenberg on May 9, 1886. The following children were born from the first marriage:
