Career
society
Andrés D'Alessandro comes from River Plate's youth department , where he played with Javier Saviola , among others . After rising to the top of the league , he stayed with the club for five years before moving to VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga in 2003 for a record transfer fee of 9.5 million euros . There he played a total of 61 Bundesliga games and scored eight goals. In January 2006 D'Alessandro moved on loan from Wolfsburg to the English Premier League club Portsmouth FC , where he scored a goal in 13 games by the end of the season and was instrumental in keeping the team relegated. In the summer of 2006, in addition to Portsmouth, other clubs vied for the player's favor and so another loan deal followed to the Spanish first division club Real Saragossa . After the loan period ended, D'Alessandro finally moved to Saragossa and signed a contract until 2011. In October 2007, he was excluded from training after an argument with Pablo Aimar .
For the Clausura season 2008 Andrés D'Alessandro moved back to Argentina to Club CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . A business group connected by San Lorenzo is said to have acquired 50 percent of the rights to D'Alessandro von Saragossa for 3.5 million euros and has now loaned the player to the Argentine club for a year. In July 2009 he was banned for 60 days after an argument with an opponent in the Argentine Cup final.
In 2010 he was named South America's Footballer of the Year and won the Copa Libertadores with SC Internacional . At the Club World Cup 2010 he finished third with his team and was also awarded the bronze ball as the third best player of the tournament.
In February 2016, D'Alessandro was loaned to his former club CA River Plate .
National team
The attacking midfielder won the gold medal with the Argentine national soccer team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. So far, he has completed 22 international matches for his home country, but was not in the Albiceleste squad for the 2006 World Cup .
