Andrea Fischer (born January 14, 1960 in Arnsberg ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and lobbyist . She was Federal Minister for Health from 1998 to 2001 .

Life

education and profession

After graduating from high school , Andrea Fischer completed an apprenticeship as an offset printer . She then worked as a printer and proofreader and also completed a degree in economics at the Free University of Berlin . After completing her studies, she worked as a research assistant at the European Parliament , at the Berlin Science Center for Social Research and at the Federal Insurance Institute for Salaried Employees .

Political career

She has been a member of the Greens since 1985, before that she was a member of the International Marxists Group (GIM), the then German section of the Fourth International. From 1994 to 2002 she was a member of the German Bundestag . After the 1998 federal election , she was appointed Federal Minister of Health on October 27, 1998 in the federal government led by Gerhard Schröder . As a result of the BSE crisis, she resigned from her post on January 9, 2001. A little later, the resignation of the Federal Minister of Agriculture Karl-Heinz Funke was announced. Fischer was elected as the alliance green top candidate in the Berlin election on September 18, 2011 in the district assembly of the Berlin district center , where she was chairwoman of the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen until October 30, 2012.

On October 15, 2012, Fischer was elected by the regional assembly to the newly structured office of finance director for the Hanover region, which was newly structured by regional president Hauke ​​Jagau . She manages the areas of finance, facility management and hospitals. In April 2013 she took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of the Hannover Region Hospital in this role . On January 28, 2020, the Hanover region announced that Fischer would not be available for a further electoral term after the end of his eight-year term and would therefore be leaving office on November 11, 2020. According to his own statements, Fischer would like to work as a career supervisor afterwards.

Lobbying

After her time as an active politician, Fischer worked as a freelance publicist and lobbyist in international health policy. From 2001 to 2009 she was the patron of the Federal Association of Psychiatry Experienced . From 2004 to 2006, Fischer was a member of the management team of the consulting firm “Institute for Organizational Communication” (IFOK GmbH), where he was responsible for the health and nutrition sector. Before that she was head of the Center for Canadian Universities (CUC) in Berlin.

Fischer is Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for People, Ethics and Science .

From 2006 to 2009 she worked for the PR agency Pleon in Munich, where she was in charge of the medical-pharmaceutical sector Healthcare. Since then she has been working independently in this area. Since April 2006, Fischer has been co-editor of the now closed GesundheitsNachrichten , a specialist journal for the health industry.

From October 2002 to the end of 2003, Andrea Fischer presented the n-tv show “Grüner Salon” together with the BamS editor-in-chief Claus Strunz . She appears regularly in programs on Deutschlandradio Kultur , where she presents new releases in German-language crime literature .

Fischer supported the Berlin Pro Reli campaign , which failed in April 2009, as a testimonial . From 2008 to January 2013 she was the diocesan leader of the Maltese in Berlin.
