Andrei Alexeyevich Trofimuk ( Russian Андрей Алексеевич Трофимук ; born August 3 . Jul / 16th August  1911 greg. In Chwetkowitschi, Ujesd Kobryn ; † 24. March 1999 in Novosibirsk ) was a Russian geologist , and university teachers .

Life

Trofimuk came from a farming family. At the beginning of the First World War , the family was evacuated to Nizhneudinsk . The father then worked on the railroad , so the family often moved. Trofimuk attended the seven-year boarding school in Slavgorod until 1927 and then the middle school in Kazan with graduation in 1929. He then studied at the geological faculty of the University of Kazan . During his studies in 1930 he went on an excursion to investigate iron ore and bauxite in the Urals . After graduating in 1933, he looked for work in Bashkiria , where the first oil wells were being developed. There he worked as a geologist in the Central Research Laboratory of the Vostokneft Trust in Ufa , where he was promoted to scientific director. He also graduated in distance education, the postgraduate at the University of Kazan. In 1938 he defended his candidate dissertation on the petroleum-containing limestone of Ischimbai . 1940–1942 he was chief geologist at the Ischimbaineft Trust .

When the demand for oil increased sharply during the German-Soviet War and after the advance of the Wehrmacht it became difficult to transport oil from Azerbaijan , Trofimuk carried out test drillings in the Karlinsko-Kinsebulatowo zone near Ischimbai, despite the experts' doubts. Despite the first failures, he still believed in oil deposits in Perm - sediments . In 1943 oil was found. With further drilling, Trofimuk looked for oil from the Devonian . In 1944 a large oil field was discovered near Tuimasy and in 1946 a new oil field near Bawly , which was followed by others.

In 1949 Trofimuk defended his doctoral thesis on oil deposits from the Paleozoic in Bashkiria. 1950–1953 he headed the exploration of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry of the USSR as chief geologist . New oil fields have been discovered in Tatarstan , Ukraine and other regions. In 1951 he headed the government commission to assess the potential for oil deposits in the north of the Krasnoyarsk region and in Yakutia . In 1952 he increased oil and natural gas production in western and eastern Siberia . In addition, he continued his scientific research and in 1953 became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR). In 1955 he became director of the All Union Research Institute for Oil and Natural Gas in Moscow .

1957 organized Trofimuk at the invitation of Mikhail Alexejewitsch Lavrentjews the new Institute for Geology and Geophysics (IGG) of the Siberian Department (SO) of the AN-SSSR in Novosibirsk and became its director. In 1958 he became a real member of the AN-SSSR. Together with Michail Alexejewitsch Lavrentjew, Guri Ivanovich Martschuk and Valentin Afanassjewitsch Koptjug , he created a whole science center of the SO-AN-SSSR in Novosibirsk and provided similar centers in Kemerovo , Krasnoyarsk , Tomsk , Tyumen , Ulan-Ude and Jakutsk . In 1960 Trofimuk became a professor at the Novosibirsk State University (NGU). In 1988 he became honorary director of the IGG and advisor to the presidium of the AN-SSSR (since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)).

Trofimuk was a member of the CPSU from 1941 to 1991 and a member of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR from 1963 to 1990 .

In 2000 the United Institute for Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy ( Trofimuk Institute for Petroleum-Natural Gas Geology and Geophysics ) of SO-RAN in Novosibirsk was named after Trofimuk. There is Akademik Trofimuk Street in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok . The Trofimuk Prize was set up for young scientists from SO-RAN.
