Annie Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Annie Award is a film prize that has been presented annually since 1972 by the department of the Association internationale du film d'animation (ASIFA) in Hollywood for special achievements in the field of animation .

The trophy is held in the form of a functional zoetrope and is intended to refer to the origins of animation film technology.

history

The Annie Awards go back to an idea by June Foray . The voice actress , who co-founded the American branch of ASIFA, wanted to honor well-deserved and forgotten personalities in the animation industry. The first prize was awarded to the brothers Dave and Max Fleischer at a festive banquet in November 1972 . At the next award ceremony, the trophy designed by Tom Woodward was awarded for the first time. In 1974 the award was first given under the name Winsor McCay Award . Since 1992, the Annie Awards have been expanded to include various categories.

In August 2010, Disney and Pixar announced that they would no longer submit their films to the competition and would withdraw from sponsoring the event. The reason given was discrepancies in the selection process. Disney / Pixar withdrew its boycott the next year.
