Antonio Sabàto junior (born February 29, 1972 in Rome ), mostly written Antonio Sabato Jr. , is an American actor . In 2018 he was a Republican candidate for a seat in the United States House of Representatives .

Life

Family and youth

Antonio Sabàto junior is the son of the actor Antonio Sabàto Sr. and the real estate agent Yvonne Kabouchy from Prague. He grew up in Rome and his mother tongue is Italian . He only learned English when his mother moved him and his sister to Los Angeles in 1984 . There he attended Beverly Hills High School until he left school at the age of 16. He temporarily moved to New York City to try a life on his own two feet. From 1989 he devoted himself to acting. In 1996 he was granted citizenship of the United States .

On May 16, 1992 Sabato married the actress Alicia Tully Jensen, but the marriage was divorced in October 1993. His son (* 1995) comes from a connection to his colleague Virginia Madsen , and he has a daughter (* 2003) with Kristin Rosetti. In 2011 he had another son from his girlfriend Cheryl Moana Marie Nunes.

In 1990 Antonio Sabato appeared in the music video for the song Love Will Never Do Without You by Janet Jackson, which was filmed by Herb Ritts . In the same year he starred in the film Karate Rock ( Il Ragazzo delle mani d'acciaio ) by the Italian director Fabrizio De Angelis , and in 1991 in the film Arizona Road ( Fuga da Kayenta ) by the same director.

In 1992, People magazine named Sabato one of the 50 most beautiful people. Fashion designer Calvin Klein noticed him and hired him for his underwear campaign. There he met again Herb Ritts, who worked as a photographer for the fashion brand. The result of the shoot was an almost 30 meter high billboard in Times Square in New York City . The campaign with Sabato is still one of the most successful in Klein's company history.

In 1992 Sabato got a role in the successful hospital series General Hospital , which he left in 1994, in 1995 he had a guest appearance. He played again in the 2008 spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift . A broad television audience also remembered Sabato as the abusive husband of Heather Locklear in Melrose Place .

In addition to acting, Sabato is also active as a writer . His book No Excuses: Workout for Life was published in 1999 and quickly became a bestseller.

After losing to the US House of Representatives in November 2018 (see Politics section) and continuing to stand up for Donald Trump even after the defeat , he complains that he is no longer offered acting, or that promised roles have been withdrawn from him. Thereupon he had no choice but to turn his back on acting, move to Florida and work in construction.

Sabato was considered a harsh critic of former US President Barack Obama . Obama's decisions were one reason why he left the Democratic Party . In May 2017, Sabato announced that it would run for the Republican Party against Democrat Julia Brownley for a seat in the United States House in 2018 .

In the bipartisan primary election on August 8, 2018, Sabato finished second behind Brownley and is a candidate against her in the November 2018 main election . Brownley is a clear favorite. As expected, he was defeated by Brownley who got 59 percent of the vote.
