Audra Ann McDonald (born July 3, 1970 in West Berlin ) is an American actress and opera singer ( soprano ) who has received Emmy nominations, a Grammy and six Tony Awards for her achievements .

Life and accomplishments

Audra McDonald grew up in Fresno , California . In 1993 she graduated from the Juilliard School in New York .

Audra McDonald has been an actress on Broadway since 1994 . In 1994 she received her first Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role in the musical Carousel . She received other Tonys for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Terrence McNally's Master Class (1996) and 1998 for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for Ragtime .

In 2000, McDonald was nominated for the title role in Marie Christine for Best Actress in a Musical . In 2004 she received another Tony in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role as Ruth Younger in Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun , in the 2008 film she played in the role of herself. 2007 it was for the presentation of Lizzie Curry in 110 in the Shade as Best Actress in a Musical nomination.
