August Wilhelm von Horn (born February 18, 1800 in Loschen, Preußisch Eylau district , † April 19, 1886 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a general of the infantry .

Life

August Wilhelm was the son of Karl Gottlieb von Horn (born November 11, 1771 in Ischdaggen; † February 14, 1852 in Danzig ), Herr auf Michelau, and his wife Charlotte Christina Eva, née Meyer († May 14, 1852 in Stettin ) .

Military career

Horn joined the 4th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer in mid-May 1816 . There he was promoted to second lieutenant on February 20, 1819 and graduated from the General War School in 1822/25 . At the end of March 1828 he was appointed adjutant of the 3rd Infantry Brigade. Horn was first as prime lieutenant , later as captain , from the end of March 1836 he was adjutant of the 2nd division for four years . He was then used as a company commander in the 22nd Infantry Regiment and when he was promoted to Major on March 27, 1847, Horn became the commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 4th Landwehr Regiment. He joined the 1st Infantry Regiment as a battalion commander on April 29, 1851 , was appointed Lieutenant Colonel on March 22, 1853 , and finally, on November 2, 1854, was appointed commander of the 20th Infantry Regiment. In this position, promoted to colonel on July 15, 1855 , Horn was commandant of Stettin from August 6, 1857 and was placed à la suite of the regiment on September 19 .

From May 13, 1858 to March 14, 1859, Horn was the commander of the 26th Infantry Brigade in Münster , in the meantime became Major General on November 22, 1858 and then took over the 4th Infantry Brigade. He gave up this brigade on May 5, 1862 and became commander of the 8th Division . Shortly afterwards on December 13, 1862 , Horn was promoted to lieutenant general , and in 1866 Horn led the division in the war against Austria . In the Battle of Podol he remained victorious against the so-called Austrian "Iron Brigade" and was able to take around 500 prisoners. Horn was also able to prove himself in the following battle near Königgrätz . After the peace agreement, he was relieved of his post and on July 15, 1866 appointed inspector of the infantry of the II Reserve Corps. Two months later transferred to the officers of the army, Horn was put up for disposal on October 6, 1866 and promoted to general of the infantry with a pension .

For the duration of the war against France in 1870/71, Horn was deputy commanding general of the IV Army Corps .

After his death, he was buried on April 22, 1886 in the Invalidenfriedhof in Berlin.

Horn married Maria Antoinette Konstantia Freiin d'Orville von Löwenklau on November 11, 1839 in Bolschau (born March 26, 1819 in Mühlberg; † January 8, 1878 in Berlin). The marriage resulted in twelve children, some of whom died early:
