Hans Ferdinand August von Beyer (born February 26, 1786 in Berlin ; † July 7, 1855 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and knight of the Order of St. John .

Life

origin

August comes from the von Beyer family, who was raised to the Prussian nobility on October 21, 1786 . His parents were Friedrich Eberhard Georg von Beyer (1739-1818) and his wife Auguste Ernestine Sophie, née von Böhmer (1754-1826). His father was the lord of Friedeburg Castle as well as the Prussian secret finance councilor and director of the main stamp chamber. The Major General Edward Beyer (1787-1873) was his brother.

Military career

Beyer visited the cadet house in Berlin and joined the cuirassier regiment "von Borstell" of the Prussian army on March 29, 1800 as an Estandartenjunker . There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant until April 1802 , took part in the Battle of Auerstedt during the Fourth Coalition War and was rendered inactive when the fortress surrendered on his retreat to Magdeburg. After the Peace of Tilsit, Beyer diminished on September 16, 1807. At the beginning of January 1810, he was put on half pay and on June 17, 1812, he received permission to wear his old army uniform.

With the beginning of the war of liberation , Beyer was employed as a prime lieutenant in the Mecklenburg-Strelitz hussar regiment. He fought at the siege of Mazieres and took part in the transition at Wartenburg . For his work in the Battle of Leipzig he was awarded the Iron Cross II class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV class. He later fought near Laon , was wounded near Paris and was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class. He also fought in the battles at Goldberg, Saint-Dizier , La Chaussee, Chalons, was wounded again at Montmirail and at Château-Thierry , Gue a Tremem and Berry-au-Bac. He also received the Order of St. Anne II Class with diamonds for Claye . At that time he was on October 1, 1814 staff assistant master and on June 27, 1815 Rittmeister .

After the war, Beyer came on January 3, 1816 as an adjutant to Lieutenant General von Dobschütz , on November 1, 1816, he became an adjutant to Lieutenant General von Thielmann and on January 3, 1816, Adjutant of the 13th Division . On April 14, 1820, Beyer rose to major and on March 30, 1824, he became adjutant of the General Command of the VII Army Corps . He was aggregated to the Guard Cuirassier Regiment on May 5, 1832 and awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown on April 26, 1832 . Beyer was then commissioned on August 15, 1834 to lead the 7th Cuirassier Regiment , promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1835, and finally appointed regimental commander on January 6, 1836. In this position he became a colonel on March 30, 1837 . On April 7, 1842, he came to Erfurt as a commander for the 8th Cavalry Brigade and was given permission to wear the uniform of the 7th Cuirassier Regiment in the middle of the month. Beyer was promoted to major general on March 12, 1843, and was awarded the Commander's Cross with Star of the House Order of the White Falcon on September 14, 1844 . On September 23, 1844, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded Beyer the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On August 8, 1848, he took his leave with the character of lieutenant general and the statutory pension . He died on July 7, 1855 in Erfurt.

family

On October 7, 1834, Beyer married Emma Konstantine Countess von Wylich and Lottum (1799–1873), honorary canon of the Holy Grave and daughter of the Chamberlain and Chancellor of the Order of St. John, Karl Friedrich Johann Gustav von Wylich and Lottum (1762–1828). Her sister Sophie Charlotte (* 1793) was married to Lieutenant General Karl von Strantz (1783-1865).
