The Kiev – Poltava railway is a double-track, electrified main line in northern Ukraine . It runs from Darnytsia station in the east of Kiev via Boryspil , Beresan , Jahotyn , Hrebinka , Romodan , Myrhorod and Reshetylivka to Poltava. As a suburb of Kiev, it was called Jahotyn direction (Ukrainian Яготинський напрямок / Jahotynskyj naprjamok ). The operator of the route is the Piwdenno-Sachidna Salisnyzja .

history

The line was built in 1901 by the Moscow-Kiev-Voronezh Railway . In 1972 the Darnyzja – Baryschiwka section was electrified, in 1973 the electrification was extended to Jahotyn. Only in 1994 did electric trains reach Hrebinka. Since 2002 there has been accelerated traffic between Kiev and Kharkiv . As part of the preparations for UEFA EURO 2012 , the route was expanded in 2010/11.

The route is part of the main connection to the east. The ICplus trains ( Hyundai Rotem ) from Kiev to Donetsk and Kharkov run through without stopping. Until the timetable change in 2012 there were many D-night trains on the east-west connection, including two category I trains: 63/64 "Oberih" (German: Amulett) Charkiw – Kiev and 111/112 "Sloboschanschyna" (German: Sloboda-Ukraine ) Kharkiv– Lviv . On May 28, 2012, almost all trains to Kharkiv or western Ukraine were diverted, shortened or canceled. Passenger trains are hauled by electric locomotives of the series ЧС4 , ЧС8 or ДС3 from the Kiev Pbf depot.

Freight traffic is carried out with E-locomotives of the ВЛ80т series from Bw Hrebinka.

Regional trains run mainly in suburban traffic from Kiev. There are two pairs of accelerated regional trains from Kiev and Fastiw to Hrebinka (one pair daily, the other Friday to Sunday). Other regional trains connect Kiev and Hrebinka (4 pairs per day), Jahotyn (7 pairs) and Beresan (one pair). Electric railcars ЕР9М, ЕР9Є , ЕД9М or ЕПЛ9Т from the Fastiw railcar depot are always used here.
