For the 2000/01 season he then moved to the Hamburg Crocodiles in the major league before he signed a contract for the 2001/02 season with EHC Freiburg . During his time in Freiburg, he was promoted to the highest German ice hockey league , the DEL, during the 2002/03 season, which was followed by direct relegation in the following season . In the DEL season with Freiburg he also played three games for the Schwenninger Wild Wings in the 2nd Bundesliga with a funding license .

In the 2004/05 season , Steingroß played for the first time for the Hannover Scorpions , where he was also regularly used by the cooperation partner, REV Bremerhaven .
