action

In the fall of 2003, Catherine Chandler's car doesn't start after work and she calls her mother to bridge Catherine's car. After Mrs. Chandler arrives at her daughter, she is shot by two unknown men - Catherine becomes an eyewitness to the traumatic incident. The two strangers pursue Catherine, who is able to take refuge in a nearby forest, where she is rescued by a mysterious being.

Nine years later, in 2012, Catherine works as a police officer with the NYPD ; still the death of her mother and the mysterious beast do not let go of her. During an operation, she and her colleague Tess Vargas find the fingerprints of Vincent Keller, who allegedly perished in the field, on the body of the murdered Ashley Webster, a fashion editor. It turns out that out of jealousy, Ashley Webster was poisoned by a lover of her husband who had several affairs. Contrary to what had previously been assumed, Vincent Keller had nothing to do with the murder, just tried to help her. Catherine, who is again targeted by her pursuers, is rescued in the depths of the New York subway tunnels again by Vincent, her savior from nine years ago. The man acts as a protector of the weak, but is perceived as a villain because of his appearance. She also has to take care of her sister Heather.

characters

main characters

Catherine Chandler
As a young woman, Catherine Chandler witnessed the murder of her mother and is saved from a similar fate by a mysterious being (Vincent). She is a cop with the NYPD and has had a relationship with Vincent throughout history. Her mother worked as a doctor at Muirfield and is responsible for mutating the soldiers from Vincent's unit.
Vincent Keller
Vincent Keller, who actually works as a doctor, loses his two brothers in the attack on the World Trade Center and joins the military to overcome his loss. However, the soldiers in his unit are given injections, allegedly vitamins, for experimental purposes, which they are supposed to develop into super soldiers. However, the side effects and the uncontrollable reactions and mutations of the soldiers cause the experiment to be terminated and all survivors are executed by the Muirfield organization. Vincent is the only survivor, but fakes his death so as not to fall victim to another assassination attempt. The previously administered preparations transform him into an animal-like being with supernatural powers in the event of strong emotional reactions.
Dr. Evan Marks
Evan Marks works as a coroner with Catherine and keeps coming across faulty DNA at various crime scenes of a serial killer. When he finally learns about Vincent and to protect Catherine, but also to outdo Vincent as a competitor, he joins Muirfield. In episode 18, he is shot dead by a Muirfield agent, Kyle.
JT Forbes
JT Forbes is Vincent's longtime friend and lecturer at the local university. For Vincent's protection, he prefers to forego public and private life almost entirely. He is later in a committed relationship with Tess Vargas.
Tess Vargas

Gabriel Lowen
Gabriel Lowen is a district attorney and is called in to the investigation by Joe Bishop in order to catch the serial killer as soon as possible. He initially alleges that Catherine is hindering the investigation by hiding information, but it soon becomes apparent that there is also a connection between him and Muirfield. Gabriel Lowen is also a beast and tries in the course of the story to enter into a relationship with Catherine Chandler, this breaks up and he tries to kill Vincent Keller from then on. He is killed by Vincent Keller and Catherine Chandler.

Minor characters

Heather Chandler
Heather Chandler is Catherine's younger sister.
Mr. Chandler
Mr. Chandler is Catherine's and Heather's father. As the only remaining parent, he is very close to his two daughters. His wedding to Brooke, a woman much younger than him, causes a stir. He later dies in a car accident when he desperately wanted to meet his daughter Catherine. After his death, Cat learns that he was not her birth father.
