Behrendt
Behrendt (variants: Behrend, Berend, Berendt, Berent ) is a German first and family name , which is derived from the first name Bernhard . Until at least the 17th century, Berend (or Berendt , Berent ) was the common variant of the short form Bernd in northern Germany . Behrend (or Behrendt) can still be traced back to the 19th century as a first name in Friesland , and it still occurs occasionally in parts of northern Germany today. In addition to the family name with no endings, patronyms with different suffixes can be identified, especially Behrens (with the main variants Behrends , Berends ) and Behrendsen (with the variants Berendsen , Berentzen ). Willem Barentsz , the namesake of the Barents Sea , had an equivalent Dutch patronymic.
