Belleview is a city in Marion County in the US state of Florida with 4,492 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Belleview is around 15 km south of Ocala . Orlando is 90 km, Tampa 130 km and Jacksonville approximately 160 km away.

history

In 1882, the Tropical Florida Railroad , a subsidiary of the Florida Railroad , opened a railway line from Ocala to Wildwood . In 1884 the City of Belleview was founded on this railway line . The railway line was extended to Plant City in 1886 and to Tampa in 1890 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 4492 inhabitants were distributed over 2324 households. The population density was 955.7 inh / km². 86.8% of the population identified themselves as whites, 6.1% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 1.1% as Asian Americans . 3.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.3% to several ethnic groups. 13.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.3% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 35.0% of all households. 60.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.32 people and the average family size was 2.89 people.

24.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 25.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 47.2% of the population were male and 52.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 24,618, with 28.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 90.62% of the population, 7.85% spoke Spanish and 1.53% had another mother tongue.

The Belleview School and Lake Lillian Neighborhood Historic District are in the National Register of Historic Places listed.

There is no industry worth mentioning. The main branches of employment are: education, health and social affairs: (19.1%), trade / retail: (17.5%), construction: (13.0%).

Schools for the surrounding area are located in the city, but their communities do not have any schools. The largest schools are:

  • Belleview Elementary School, approximately 740 students
  • Belleview-Santos Elementary School, approximately 730 students
  • Belleview Middle School, approximately 1300 students
  • Belleview High School, about 1950 students

There are no further educational opportunities in the city itself.

Clinics

The city itself does not have a clinic. For medical treatments that require an outpatient or inpatient stay, residents must visit one of the surrounding clinics: The Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala , about 15 km away, the "Villages Regional Hospital" in The Villages , about 20 km away, as well as the "Leesburg Regional Medical Center" in Leesburg , about 34 km away.

Belleview is crossed by US Highways 27 , 301 and 441 ( SR 500 / SR 25 ) and Florida State Road 35 . The nearest airport is Ocala International Airport (around 25 km northwest).

crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 485 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There were seven rapes, six robberies, eight assaults, 85 break-ins, 145 thefts and five car thefts.
