Black and Yellow is a song by the American rapper Wiz Khalifa from his third album Rolling Papers . The song was released on September 14, 2010 as the first single on the album. It is known for its many remix and remake versions.

Black and Yellow was written by Wiz Khalifa and Stargate and produced by Stargate. The title of the song is a reference to the flag of Pittsburgh , with no explicit mention of the city in the text. The text is much more about Wiz Kalifa's car, a yellow Dodge Challenger with black stripes and his jewelry collection. However, it was the colors of the city that led him to buy exactly this car.

Music video

The music video was directed by Bill Paladino. The music video was filmed in Pittsburgh and shows key places and landmarks in the city, including the US Steel Tower , BNY Mellon Center, PPG Place , the Three Sisters and Smithfield Street Bridges, Station Square, Shannon Hall of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and US Steel . The “Terrible Towels”, a fan tool used by fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, will also be shown .

In addition to Wiz Khalifa, the rappers Snoop Dogg , Juicy J and T-Pain worked on the official remix version Black & Yellow (G-Mix) . The remix version was the 12 December 2010 internet provided but properly published until December 16 of 2010. A music video for the remix version was released on January 8, 2011. T-Pain then recorded its own remix version of Black and Yellow .

Popular culture

The original version of the song was used in an advertisement for the Madden NFL 13 computer game in 2012 . There, actor Paul Rudd sang the song while playing against Ray Lewis with the Pittsburgh Steelers .

The song was used in the commercial for The LEGO Batman Movie , where it beatboxed Batman . The colors refer to characteristic colors of Batman's costume (black with a yellow belt).

In the week ending November 13, 2010, Black and Yellow debuted at number 43 on the US Billboard Hot 100 . Fifteen weeks later, the single hit # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending February 19, 2011, with over 198,000 units sold each week. To date, Black and Yellow has sold over 2,342,000 units.
