Bruno Berger-Gorski
Bruno Berger-Gorski (born August 8, 1959 in Hagen ) is a German director with Polish roots. He lives in Vienna, Cologne and Nuremberg.
Career
Bruno Berger-Gorski attended the Albrecht-Dürer-Gymnasium in Hagen and the Zeppelin-Gymnasium in Lüdenscheid. He studied theater, musicology and art history at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Vienna and graduated with a master's degree. In this context he dealt scientifically with Dirk D'Ase , about whom he wrote the work Dirk D'Ase and his music-dramatic work with special consideration of the world premiere "Einstein, Traces of Light" . His world premieres of Dirk D'Ases Einstein at the Ulmer Theater and the world premiere of Adriana Hölszky's Trilogia in Bonn received national attention. Berger-Gorski is particularly interested in rediscovering rarely performed operas and in contemporary compositions. He staged works a. a. by Udo Zimmermann , Ella Milch-Sheriff , Giselher Klebe , Tom Johnson , Manfred Trojahn , Knut Vaage and Camille Kerger . His staging of Offenbach's Rheinnixen at the Trier Theater was recognized as the rediscovery of 2005 in the yearbook of the specialist newspaper opernwelt . Berger-Gorski is the only active German opera director who has staged on four continents. He staged a. a. at the State Opera Hamburg ( La Cenerentola , 1998), at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona ( La forza del destino , 1996), at the Theatro Sao Pedro in São Paulo and at the National Theater in Prague . He has also directed in Manaus , Mumbai , in Miami at the Florida Grand Opera , in Ashkelon in Israel , Mexico City , at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires , Lucca , Bergamo , Helsinki , Salzburg and Vienna .
Berger-Gorski also worked as a lecturer, e.g. He has taught directing and singing students at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki , the Royal Academy Copenhagen , the music academies in Gothenburg and Detmold. Berger-Gorski was a visiting professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . He has also held seminars at the University of Cologne and the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen .
In 2015 he directed and produced premieres and world premieres by Josef Tal and Ella Milch-Sheriff in Bonn, Luxembourg and Vienna. Berger-Gorski was able to win Marino Formenti as conductor for the production in the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn . The opera was shown in connection with a room installation by Daniel Spoerri and took place on the occasion of the German-Israeli Year 2015 and in memory of the November pogroms. Berger-Gorski also used current references and linked Josef Tal's chamber opera Der Garten with the refugee crisis and the assassination attempt on Cologne's mayor Henriette Reker .
The Israeli contemporary chamber opera Else ( Josef Tal ) combined Berger-Gorski in 2016 with Ein Lied ( Luca Lombardi ) as a staged first performance about Else Lasker-Schüler and with Conversation with a stone ( Ella Milch-Sheriff ). With this production, Berger-Gorski was invited to the White Stork Synagogue in Wroclaw as part of the European Capital of Culture program. Furthermore, a performance took place under the patronage of the Israeli ambassador Yakov Hadas-Handelsman at the Cologne University of Music and Dance .
In 2017, Berger-Gorski staged the opera Else as a collage together with the pieces Mein Blaues Klavier and Scene by Josef Tal during the Salzburg Festival . The scenic premiere took place in the Museum der Moderne, a second performance in the synagogue in Salzburg . Berger-Gorski was able to win Julia Gschnitzer as an actor . In addition, Shmuel Barzilai , chief cantor of the Jewish community in Vienna, appeared in the piece and then sang a kaddish for Else Lasker-Schüler . Marko Feingold and Sandra Kreisler also acted as speakers .
In October 2017, Berger-Gorski staged Samson et Dalila with Olga Borodina (conductor: Emmanuel Villaume ) at the Dallas Opera .

These took place as a Swiss premiere with Yannis Pouspourikas as conductor. In 2019 he staged the Israeli premiere of Peter Eötvös' Der Goldene Drache (conductor: Nagy Zsolt) in the Gesher Theater in Tel Aviv and was invited to the Bartok Plusz Festival in Hungary with the production and musicians of the Israelian Contemporary Players from Israel.
