The Burgstall in the cattle drive is located north of the Bobingen district of Straßberg on a branch of the Wertachleite in the Augsburg district in Swabia . The early or high medieval fortifications were cleverly built into an abandoned ravine bundle .

The diversified bundle of ravines is likely to go back to a former work place. Brown iron ore may have been mined here in the Early or High Middle Ages . The ravines should therefore be interpreted as transport channels or chutes .

The impressive fortification at the east end of the site was probably built after the abandonment of the work area by reworking the existing trenches and ramparts.

In the northern part of the ditch, a vessel fragment with an edge profile from the 14th century was recovered.

Typologically, the Burgstall cannot be clearly classified. The narrow, elongated hill of the core work could indicate a high medieval castle . The extensive, staggered wall system is reminiscent of early medieval fortifications.

Immediately south of the Burgstall there is a probably early medieval section fortification on the neighboring hill spur ( section fortification Straßberg ). This ground monument is likely to have been created in its last stage of development during the time of the Hungarian invasions .

The Burgplatz was carved out of the eastern part of the bundle of ravines. The core plant is located on a hill about 10 meters high, about 50 meters long and only about 10 to 15 meters wide. In the west, a short neck ditch - up to two meters deep - and a rampart behind it (height about 1 meter) protect the main castle. A small, triangular outwork is placed in front of the neck ditch , which is separated from the hinterland by a further, approximately 1.5 meters deep, cross ditch.

Reworking the abandoned ravines or chutes resulted in trenches up to six meters deep in the north and south of the core plant. The south side appears particularly defensive. Here a potential attacker had to overcome a four-fold staggered channel and ditch system. An approximately 10 meter high outer wall is in front of the inner ditch.

The eastern foot of the hill is secured by two superimposed section walls. The plateau of the main castle (approx. 540 m above sea level) is about 20 meters above the valley edge.

The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation lists the ground monument as a presumably medieval fortification under monument number D 7-7730-0109.
