history
After the area was settled by the first whites in the middle of the 19th century, a post office was set up in 1855. In 1870 the place was first incorporated as the Village of Caledonia . After a railroad station was built on Milwaukee Road in 1879 , the clay deposits in the area were used to make bricks. Due to the increase in population, Caledonia was finally incorporated as an independent municipality in 1889.
