The Caribbean Princess (dt. Caribbean Princess ) is a post-Panamax - cruise ship of the American shipping company Princess Cruises and the lead ship of the Caribbean class.

history

The Caribbean Princess was built at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and was delivered on March 20, 2004. The ship was christened on April 2, 2004 by actress Jill Whelan in Fort Lauderdale . On April 3, 2004, the ship left for her maiden voyage.

Incident 2012

During a cruise in the Southeast Caribbean in mid-March 2012, the drive motor of the port propeller failed and the ship had to return to San Juan (Puerto Rico) . As the necessary repairs could not be carried out while the ship was in motion, two more cruises were canceled. Compensation was offered to the passengers affected.

Data

The Caribbean Princess is the type ship of the Caribbean class (also called the Super Grand Class), which is a further development of the Grand Class. With identical technical equipment, the space available was expanded by an additional passenger deck (Riviera deck). Its superstructures were made of aluminum to keep the ship's center of gravity as low as possible. The expansion made it possible to create around 200 additional passenger cabins.

The Caribbean Princess has a capacity of over 3,142 passengers who are accommodated on 15 of the 19 decks. It has 881 balcony suites and a deck with mini suites. The ship is slightly larger than the sister ships Star Princess , Golden Princess and Grand Princess , but smaller than the newest ships of the shipping company, the ships of the Royal class . In the summer season she visits ports in the British Isles and Norway from Southampton . In winter she travels to the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale .

The motto “Big Ship Choice, Small Ship Feel” applies to the large cruise ships of Princess Cruises. So the shipping company wants customers to feel like they are on a small ship, even though they are on a large cruise ship. The service should be kept personal and the interior of the ship also reflects this motto. Many large rooms on the ship such as B. the restaurants have been rebuilt and converted into small cafes and bars.
