The Island Princess is a cruise ship operated by the US shipping company Princess Cruises . She is the lead ship of the two-unit Coral class. Together with her sister ship, the Coral Princess , which was also commissioned in 2003 , she is the shipping company's only Panamax ship.
History and commitment
The ship was built under the hull number D32 at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire , France . The keel was laid on January 22nd, the launch on July 2nd, 2002. The ship was delivered to Princess Cruises on June 18th, 2003. It was baptized on July 11, 2003 in Vancouver , Canada . The maiden voyage from Vancouver took place on July 12, 2003 . The ship is registered in Bermuda .
The Island Princess is used in the waters of Europe , the Caribbean , the Panama Canal and when crossing the Atlantic .
Technical data and equipment
The ship is powered by diesel-electric technology . For the power supply are two Wärtsilä - diesel engines , each with 16,200 kW and a General Electric Gas Turbine with 25,000 kW power.
There are a total of 700 cabins, which are spread over two decks , for the passengers on board.
