Carlo Schmid (born January 25, 1990 in Thalwil ; legal resident in Wittnau ) is a Swiss pilot .

He is the holder of a glider and private pilot license .

World record

Flight route from 2012

The trained bank clerk completed a solo flight around the world at the age of 22 as the youngest pilot to date . His single-engine Cessna 210 with the aircraft registration HB-RTW took off and landed on July 11 and September 29, 2012 at the Dübendorf military airfield .

The flight ran along the route Dübendorf - Vienna - Corfu - Heraklion - Alexandria - Medina - Riyadh - Muscat - Karachi - Ahmedabad - Nagpur - Calcutta - Chiang Mai - Udon Thani - Nha Trang - Subic - Laoag City - Taipei - Nagasaki - Osaka - Sapporo - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - Anadyr - Nome (Alaska) - Anchorage - Juneau - Comox (British Columbia) - Boise - Denver - Saint Joseph (Missouri) - Indianapolis - Teterboro - Québec - CFB Goose Bay - Narsarsuaq - Reykjavík - Vágar - Prestwick - Manchester - Hamburg - Dübendorf. When approaching Dübendorf, the aircraft was escorted by the PC-7 military aerobatic team .

Carlo Schmid undercut the previous age record of the Jamaican Barrington Irving . With the circumnavigation of the world , an amount of 50,000 Swiss francs was collected for the benefit of the UNICEF children's aid organization .
