Mönchengladbach , Giebelstadt , Niederstetten , Rhein-Main Air Base Frankfurt and Brussels served as airports for the REFORGER deployment . For this purpose, 16,000 US soldiers were flown in from the USA and an additional 51,000 tons of material were shipped to European ports. The deployment area was Tauberbischofsheim via the train station, the A81 , Lauda-Königshofen , Boxberg , Bad Mergentheim and Niederstetten. The Taubertalstraße via Rothenburg , Feuchtwangen , Nördlingen and the B290 in the Aalen area served as the deployment route for the exercise troops .

The maneuver center was in the McKee Barracks of Crailsheim . The agglomeration was the area around Schwäbisch Hall , Crailsheim, Rothenburg ob der Tauber , Neu-Ulm and Nördlingen . The march began on September 10th. The official start of the exercise, which had been postponed by one day due to the bad weather conditions, was on September 12th. The exercise ended on September 28 with a combat shooting at the Grafenwoehr military training area ; the march back took place on October 30, 1984. The exercise was based on the AirLand Battle concept with the intention of restoring the intended borderline for BLUE towards the end of the exercise.

Bridges were built across the Danube at Dillingen , Donauwörth , Hochstadt and Marxheim using ribbon pioneer bridges . Air support for the ground offensive was provided as part of Cold Fire 84 . As an innovation, the M2 Bradley was used for the first time. In Bieberehren near Würzburg there was a fatal accident with a tanker truck. Peace activists planned to prevent maneuvers against Certain Fury 84, but only realized a “walk” on the Wildflecken military training area .
