Sights and culture

  • Katharinen Church, it was first mentioned in the 15th century and belonged to one of the two Chrudim hospitals. In 1536 the church was enlarged and today's nave was laid out. Until the Thirty Years War it was the city's Protestant place of worship. In 1691 another renovation took place. The church shaped the townscape with its two towers with high tent hoods and two other high tent roofs on the nave and choir. In the middle of the 18th century Joseph Ceregetti created a new high altar sheet. The church was destroyed in the fire on August 6, 1850. The reconstruction was completed in 1887, but the distinctive tent roofs were not restored. The consecration took place on September 8, 1888. The tombs of the dean Wenceslas Agricola († 1660) and the knight Wenceslaus Stastny Straník from Kopidlno on Vlčnov († 1680) are located in the church.
  • Burial Church of St. Exaltation of the cross, it is said to have been built in 987 and is considered the oldest of the Chrudim churches.
