The City of Xiamen is a full container ship operated by the M. Lauterjung shipping company in Emden . The ship is the first in a series of five identical container ships from the shipping company, which are managed by the Sunship Schiffahrtkontor, which belongs to the shipping company M. Lauterjung .
history
The ship was under the hull number XSI402A on the shipyard Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Corp. built in Xiamen , China . The keel was laid on October 20, 2007, the launch on January 25, 2008. The completion and delivery of the ship took place on April 30, 2008.
Pirate attack off West Africa
On the evening of April 25, 2013, the ship was ambushed in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Nigeria and five crew members were taken hostage. The hostages are said to be the captain , the helmsman , the chief as well as the 2nd and 3rd engineer of the ship. The kidnapped sailors were Polish and Russian citizens. They were released on May 11th. Nothing was known about the payment of a ransom. The ship was in charter with the Danish Maersk Line , which used it in the liner service between Port Klang and West Africa. 13 seafarers are said to have been on board .
Whereabouts of the ship
The ship was sold in 2017. It came under the flag of the Marshall Islands as GH Zephyr . It is operated by the Hong Kong- based company Fleet Management Ltd. It sails in a liner service in the Indian Ocean with Mærsk Line .
Technical specifications
The ship is powered by a seven - cylinder two - stroke diesel engine made by Sulzer (type: 7 RTA72U-B). The engine with an output of 21,560 kW , which was built under license by Dalian Marine Diesel Co., acts on a fixed pitch propeller . The ship reaches a maximum speed of 22 knots . In the bow , the ship has a transverse thruster control system with an output of 1,100 kW.
Three diesel generators , each with an output of 2,400 kW ( apparent output 3,000 kVA ) and an emergency generator with 275 kW (apparent output 281.25 kVA) are available for the power supply.
The container capacity is 2,564 TEU . There is space for 1,606 TEU on deck and 958 TEU in the space. With homogeneous loading with 14-ton containers , the capacity is 1,861 TEU. There are 342 connections available for refrigerated containers, 200 of them on deck and 142 in the room. The ship can also load 45 or 48 foot containers on deck.
The ship has five holds and ten hatches that are closed with pontoon lids . The holds are equipped with 40-foot cell guides. Four 20-foot containers can be stowed one behind the other and up to ten containers next to each other in the holds. On deck there is space for two 20-foot containers one behind the other and up to twelve containers side by side on the hatch covers. Between hold 5 and the deckhouse , which is located at the stern of the ship, there are additional parking spaces on deck for three 20-foot containers one behind the other. Twelve containers can also be stowed side by side here. Up to six containers can be stowed one above the other in the holds and up to seven on deck.
There are three ship cranes on deck with a maximum capacity of 45 tons. The cranes are located amidships between holds 1 and 2, 3 and 4 and behind room 5.
The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice, and the ship is classified as ice class "E". The range of the ship is around 15,000 nautical miles .
