The Grand Classica is a cruise ship operated by the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line .

history

The ship was built as a Costa Classica for Costa Crociere SpA. After being launched on February 2, 1991, the ship undertook test drives from June 1991. The ship was delivered to the client on December 7th and christened on the same day. The ship sailed under the Italian flag with its home port of Naples . The ship completed its maiden voyage on December 17, 1991.

In 1994 the ship was flagged out to Liberia , home port became Monrovia . In September 2000 the ship came under the Italian flag again, the home port was Genoa.

In 2000, Costa Crociere placed an order to extend the Costa Classica to the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead . The shipyard then built a central nave section for the ship. On November 23, 2000, the ship was transferred to the shipyard, but it turned out that the section had not yet been completed and it was agreed that the section should be installed a year later. In 2001, however, it turned out that the section did not fit and it was agreed that Cammell Laird should build a new section. The section was scrapped.

In 2001 and 2005 the ship was completely renovated.

For a while, the Costa Classica was the only ship in the fleet with the main onboard language German under the motto: "German-speaking ship", although languages from other countries were still represented. The difference to the Costa Marina , which also sailed under the motto “German-speaking ship” for a few years, was that the Costa Classica was also marketed internationally, although special consideration was given to German-speaking passengers; For example, Germans were asked beforehand about their interests and wishes regarding the appearance of the ship.

On November 8, 2014, the ship arrived in Genoa at the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard, where it was extensively renovated and rebuilt. In December the ship was renamed Costa neoClassica . The € 22.5 million conversion was completed on December 18, 2014 and the ship was reintegrated into the fleet.

Costa Crociere announced in August 2017 that it had sold the ship with handover in 2018. At the beginning of March 2018, the ship started sailing under the flag of Portugal . In March 2018, Costa Crociere put the Costa neoClassica out of service. She was sold to Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line and renamed Grand Classica in April 2018 . The Grand Classica has been in operation between West Palm Beach and Freeport since April 13, 2018 .

commitment

On her last summer season for Costa Crociere, the ship sailed from Bari to Greece, in winter 2017/2018 the Costa neoClassica sailed between India , Sri Lanka and the Maldives .
