Cyrill Elija Akono (born February 29, 2000 in Münster ) is a German - Cameroonian football player who is used as a striker . He is under contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 and is part of their second team .

Life

Cyrill Akono is the son of a Cameroonian immigrant and a German mother. He grew up in Südkirchen and graduated from the Städtisches Gymnasium Selm in 2018 .

Career

Akono completed his first stage in his youth at his home club, SV Südkirchen (2004–2012). There he caught the eye of the higher-class VfB Waltrop , for whom he played from 2012 to 2015, through outstanding performances . Finally, FC Schalke 04 signed Akono for the junior performance center on July 1, 2015 . After a season in Gelsenkirchen, Akono came to Preußen Münster in the summer of 2016 . After he made a significant contribution to the promotion of the Bundesliga as the top scorer in his first season in the B-Jugend, he was invited to train the professional team for the first time at the start of the third division season 2017/18, with which he then regularly trained. In November 2017 he signed a professional contract, on April 7, 2018 he had his first appearance in professional football in the 1-0 home game win against SV Wehen Wiesbaden . On his second appearance, he scored his first goal in professional football in the home game against Halleschen FC .

For the 2019/20 Bundesliga season , 1. FSV Mainz 05 signed the attacker, with whom he received a contract that runs until 2023. At FSV he will initially be used in the second team in the Regionalliga Südwest .
