DHB Cup finals 1975–1993
The DHB Cup winners were determined in different ways between 1975 and 1993: with a final at a mostly neutral location or with two finals, i.e. with two legs. Up to and including 1977, the loser of the final of the German championship was set for the cup final and the two semi-final losers of the German championship determined the second cup finalist. There were no more rounds and no possibility for the respective German champions to win the cup. In those years the competition served only to determine a participant in the European Cup Winners' Cup. It was not until the 1977/78 season that a full cup season with preliminary rounds and national cups was played as elimination rounds. In 1987, instead of the semi-finals and final, a points round with four teams ( Bayer Leverkusen , TV Lützellinden , 1. FC Nürnberg and TSV Tempelhof-Mariendorf ) was held over three days (1 to 3 May) in Gießen , Leverkusen and Unna . On the third and final day of the match, Leverkusen and Lützellinden, the two teams that had won their opening games, faced each other, so that TV Lützellinden can be listed here as a "finalist" as the loser of this game and second in the tournament. Leverkusen won the decisive game 22:16, second division Tempelhof-Mariendorf was third with a 14:10 against Nuremberg.
In the 1990/91 season, an all-German cup final was played between the two German cup winners to determine the German representative in the 1991/92 European Cup. DHB Cup winners Bayer 04 Leverkusen defeated FDGB Cup winners TSC Berlin after a round trip with 45:42 (individual results 24:18 and 21:24).
DHB Cup finals since 1994
Since 1994, the semi-finals and finals have been decided in one place and on one weekend. The winners of the quarter-finals take part in the so-called Final Four and determine the DHB Cup winner. The two semi-finals will be played on the first day and the final on the immediately following day. The first three Final Four tournaments took place in Bremen , Lützellinden and Bremen again. From 1997 to 2010 the final round was held in Riesa , then three times in Göppingen and in 2014 for the first time in Leipzig .

Walle was always in the lead, but leaders Lützellinden managed to equalize 20:20 in the 58th minute. That would have been enough to win the title. But of all people, the ex-Lützellinder Marlies Waelzer scored the 21:20 winning goal for the new German champions TuS Walle Bremen a second before the end of the game.
