The Sony α900 ( DSLR-A900 ) is a digital SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer Sony . As the sixth model in the manufacturer's own α series , it is the first model with the manufacturer's full-format sensor .

The camera has an information display on the top of the camera as well as a roof-edge pentaprism viewfinder with 0.74x magnification and an image field coverage of 100%.

history

The camera was presented on September 9, 2008 in the run-up to photokina and has been on the market since October 2008. Equipped for the first time with a full-frame sensor, the camera marks Sony's entry into the professional digital photography market . In order to guarantee downward compatibility , the sensor size is restricted accordingly when using the DT lenses developed for APS-C sensors (similar to the DX / FX lens change mode of the Nikon D3 and D700 ).

Even before the official launch of the Alpha 900, prototypes of this camera and the Alpha 700 were presented.

overview

  • 36 mm × 24 mm small image sensor in CMOS sensor technology
  • two BIONZ processors
  • 24.6 megapixel sensor
  • 9-point autofocus with central f / 2.8 double cross sensor and 10 AF auxiliary points
  • Shutter speed 30 s to 1/8000 s, bulb, continuous shooting up to 5 fps
  • Glass penta prism viewfinder with 100% field coverage and 0.74x magnification
  • high-resolution, non-foldable 3.0 "display with a resolution of 921,600 subpixels (640 × 480 pixels RGB )
  • Aluminum chassis and a magnesium alloy housing
  • Integrated optical image stabilization of the sensor ( Super Steady Shot )
  • Quick navigation operating concept
  • Protection against dust through antistatic coating and sensor shift mechanism

Special features of the camera

With the Alpha 900, Sony's first digital full-frame sensor - SLR released. It is equipped with image stabilization ( called Super Steady Shot by Sony ) integrated in the housing .

The CMOS sensor with a resolution of 24.6 megapixels represented the maximum for 35mm SLR cameras with 36.3 megapixels until the Nikon D800 was launched .

Another special feature of the camera is the bright and clear glass penta prism viewfinder with 100% image field coverage and 0.74x magnification. These properties of a pentaprism finder are often reserved for professional camera models, while other digital SLR cameras, for example, almost exclusively only offer a field of view coverage of 95%.

Individual evidence

  1. Sony (along with other manufacturers) counts the subpixels of each pixel, i.e. H. the red, green and blue channels of each pixel individually, and therefore specifies the rear display with 307,200 [pixels] × 3 [color channels] = 921,600 pixels.
