The survival duo: Two men, one goal , in the original English Dual Survival , is a survival documentary film series produced by the US production company Original Media . In America the series is broadcast on the Discovery Channel , in Germany on DMAX . The program is moderated by two survival experts who demonstrate different survival techniques: Cody Lundin , an expert in survival techniques with more than 20 years of experience, and Dave Canterbury , ex-soldier, parachutist and avid hunter. The first season had its premiere in Germany on September 5, 2010 on the DMAX channel. The second season followed in 2011, after a break of about one and a half years, the third season in 2013 and the fourth season in 2014. The fifth season was broadcast from August 24, 2015.

In each episode, the performers demonstrate general survival situations, such as: B. as abandoned sailors, stray hikers or mountaineers, and have to survive a few days before they find their way back to civilization . As equipment, they always only have a few aids and incomplete equipment. On their way, they demonstrate how to survive in the respective region and how to build various pieces of equipment. The strategies are very different, which leads to occasional conflicts. Lundin, for example, who has not worn shoes for over 20 years, walked very slowly in difficult terrain. Canterbury was never very enthusiastic about it and was generally rather critical of Lundin's way of life.

Change of line-up

In July 2012 it was announced that Dave Canterbury had dropped out of the series. It turned out that Canterbury had been untruthful about its military past. He was with the US Army for several years , but never as a sniper or ranger . He was replaced from the third season by the new expert Joseph Teti . Lundin was fired during season four due to differences over health and safety issues. Lundin has been replaced by survival expert Matt Graham.

Episodes

So far, 56 episodes have been produced in five seasons. Each episode takes place in a different place on earth, with the continent Antarctica being the only one that has not yet been a location in an episode. In addition, almost a third of all previous episodes are set on the US mainland.

Dual Survival ranked first among cable programs in the US for men 25–54 / 18–49 / 18–34, first among original series on cable programs among people 25–54 / 18–49 / 18–34, and third among men Original series on cable programs for women 25–54 years. The viewers paid special attention to scenes that were posed or appeared "fake". For example, they noticed Graham handing his partner Teti a box of red-tipped matches, but when Teti held them in his hand, they were green. When Teti returned them, they were suddenly red again.
