Dawan Isaiah Robinson (born February 10, 1982 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Robinson began a professional career in Europe, where he played except for one season in the NBA Development League in France , Poland , Italy and Israel . After Robinson had already played in the basketball Bundesliga 2012/13 for the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt, he won the German championship with Brose Baskets Bamberg on his second engagement in Germany in 2015 .

Career

After attending Martin Luther King High School in his hometown, Robinson completed a preparatory year at the Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine . After the "preparation school" he began studying at the University of Rhode Island , where he played from 2001 for the university team Rams in the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) of the NCAA . After the Rams had won a championship of the A-10 with Lamar Odom in 1999 and had reached the national NCAA finals for the last time , the Rams with Robinson initially did not create any further special successes. In 2003 and 2004 it was enough to participate in the National Invitation Tournament , in which, however, after an opening win, they were eliminated in the second game. In the following, supposedly last season as "Senior", Robinson was only able to complete one minute of play and ended up sitting out the season as "redshirted" due to injury, so that he was able to complete another season for the Rams in the NCAA in the 2005/06 season . But even with this season he could not recommend himself for the entry draft of the highest endowed professional league NBA , although he was allowed to complete the pre-season with the Los Angeles Clippers in the summer of 2006 .

In autumn 2006 Robinson finally signed a contract in Europe with the traditional French club Cercle Saint-Pierre from Limoges . The multiple champion and European Cup winner was only promoted back to the second division LNB Pro B after his re-establishment in 2004 and initially missed the return to the top division in 2007. In the 2007/08 season Robinson played in the Polska Liga Koszykówki for old master Śląsk from Wroclaw , who was able to defend his third place from the previous season in 2008. From 2008 to 2010 Robinson played in the Italian Veroli for Prima Basket in the second division Legadue . With this club he won the league cup of the second division in 2009 under coach Andrea Trinchieri , but missed promotion to the top division in the play-offs . In his second season he left the club in February 2010 and moved to league rivals Umana Venezia , where he remained without use after an injury.

In the 2010/11 season Robinson initially stayed in his home country and played for the Erie BayHawks from his native state in the NBA Development League (D-League). In 18 missions, however, Robinson again failed to recommend himself for the NBA, and so he went back to the second Italian division in January 2011, where he played in Reggio nell'Emilia for Trenkwalder Reggiana. After relegation, the club achieved first place after the main round and direct promotion to the top division Serie A in the following season 2011/12 . In the 2012/13 season Robinson only got a contract with the German first division club Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main in December 2012 . After 14 wins this season in 34 games, however, it was only enough to keep up, but Robinson, who was injured in the meantime, got another contract for the following season. But only four weeks after the start of the basketball Bundesliga 2013/14 , Robinson's contract in Frankfurt was canceled after a conflict with coach Gordon Herbert . So Robinson went to Netanya to Maccabi Barak in the Israeli Ligat ha'Al , with whom he missed the play-offs for the championship in ninth place. Instead, the club even had to retreat to the second division after the season after financial problems.

In the 2014/15 season, after signing Openjobmetis from Varese , Robinson made it to the top Italian league Serie A, where he and Christian Eyenga , who had been his teammate in Erie in the D-League, and his former Frankfurt teammate Andy Rautins played together. In January 2015, Robinson separated from the traditional northern Italian club and was brought to the Brose Baskets in Bamberg by his former coach Trinchieri to replace his compatriot Josh Shipp . Under Trinchieri Robinson was able to win another title. After losing the final in the Beko BBL-Pokal in 2015 against hosts EWE Baskets Oldenburg , the Franconians were able to win back the championship in the final series against defending champions FC Bayern Munich as the main round first in the 2014/15 basketball Bundesliga in the playoffs .
