Deep Throat Part II

Deep Throat ( English for "deep throat ") is an American porn film by Gerard Damiano ( screenplay and direction ), with Linda Lovelace (actually Linda Boreman) and Harry Reems from 1972. The film gave its name to the extensive Depicted sexual practice deepthroat or throatgagging.

action

Linda, around 20 years old, has sexual problems. According to her statement, she has never had an orgasm . Her friend Helen cannot help her either, and the group sex she organizes for Linda only satisfies herself. Helen then turns Linda into Dr. Young, who uses a telescope to find out that Linda has no clitoris - at least not where women normally have it. He soon finds the missing clitoris in Linda's throat, whereupon she seeks and finds her fulfillment through oral sex .

She then begins as Dr. Working as Young's assistant makes not only happy himself, but also his patients. The plot ends with her sleeping with a man who recently proposed marriage to her.

Emergence

Deep Throat was shot as a low-budget film in just six days in Florida for a budget of $ 22,500. The production costs were met by the producer Louis "Butchie" Peraino with funds from the Colombo family - one of the five families of the American Cosa Nostra in New York City. Most of the box office revenues, which are estimated to range from 100 million (according to the FBI ) to 600 million US dollars, flowed back to the mobsters .

According to the film critic Roger Ebert , the high amount of 600 million US dollars was due to the fact that in the 1970s American porn cinemas were mostly owned by members of the mafia, who used them for money laundering . According to Ebert, Deep Throat is the most profitable film ever, with a cost of $ 25,000 and revenues of $ 600 million. (By comparison, Titanic , James Cameron's film with the second highest revenue in the history of film, has a cost / income ratio of less than 1:10.)

Due to prohibition proceedings by US public prosecutors ( Deep Throat was not allowed to be performed in more than half of all US states ) and measures by the FBI (lead actor Harry Reems was the first US actor to be sentenced to imprisonment for his work ; the imprisonment imposed five years was canceled in the second instance) the film attracted massive attention in the print media and was even discussed in detail in the New York Times .

1972 Movie Poster: How Far Does a Girl Have to Go to Make Her Tingle?

The porn strip is considered to be one of the most influential films of the past decades, because it got pornography out of the "dirty corners" of the train station cinemas and a broad audience began to deal with this form of film. Along with Behind the Green Door , the film also started the so-called porn-chic boom of the 1970s, when it became fashionable for porn films to be shown in normal cinemas and for people to watch these films and then discuss them. The film ranked No. 41 on the list of 101 Greatest Adult tapes of All Time by AVN .

Outside of fan circles, the film was best known for the fact that FBI employee Mark Felt - the source of information for Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward in discovering the Watergate affair  - was given the code name "Deep Throat" by a journalist.

Deep Throat has been referenced in many other films, such as: B. in King Kong (1976), Kentucky Fried Movie (1977), The Ice Storm by Ang Lee (1997) or The Last King of Scotland - In the Clutches of Power (2006) as well as in the TV series The X-Files - The Weird ones FBI Cases (1993). The story of the making of the film is also retold in the Boreman biopic Lovelace .

The artist Mona Hatoum referred to film with the title of her video installation Deep Throat from 1996.

With Inside Deep Throat , a documentary about Deep Throat ran in cinemas in August 2005 .

The Linda Boreman Report (1980)

Leading actress Linda Boreman (stage name: Linda Lovelace) initially defended the film and its makers against criticism. In 1980, eight years after the start of the film, she published an autobiography entitled Ordeal (Martyrium), German title The Truth About Deep Throat (later: I unpack ). According to this account, her then husband Chuck Traynor initially forced her to cohabit under the threat of gun violence and subsequently kept her as a kind of slave. During this time, Traynor repeatedly mistreated her and also forced her to have sex with dogs. He taught her how to suppress her gag reflex in order to take in a complete penis. Traynor also withheld the entire fee, USD 1200, that she received for Deep Throat . The Deep Throat film crew was once in the next room while Traynor abused them so much that they called out for help. However, no one intervened, only the next day, when director Gerard Damiano discovered the bruises on the legs of his leading actress, he protested, but simply covered the traces of abuse.

Broadcast on Dutch television (2008)

The Dutch public broadcasting - Institute BNN beamed Deep Throat on 23 February 2008 as part of a theme night pornography and youth from. An accompanying special broadcast of the BNN series Spuiten en Slikken and the broadcast of the documentary Inside Deep Throat by the broadcasting company VPRO should help young people in particular to form their own judgment about pornography, it said.

Youth and Family Minister André Rouvoet from the ChristenUnie (ChristenUnion, CU) appealed to those responsible for the program not to broadcast. His social-democratic cabinet colleague Ronald Plasterk ( PvdA ), who is responsible for the media, stated, referring to the freedom of the press, that a broadcasting ban was not possible. Members of the Christian Democrats ( CDA ) from Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and two smaller Christian parliamentary parties also spoke out against the broadcast of the film. Boris van der Ham , then MP for the social liberal party D66, wrote in 2012 that he believed that BNN was free to broadcast the film. Johan Remkes , MP for the right-wing liberal VVD , said that, in his view, it was inappropriate for a minister to express a moral judgment on a film.

The film reached 907,000 viewers and did not result in a record audience.

Trivia

  • The two actors Jack Birch and Carol Connors (she played a nurse in the film ), who met while filming the film, are the parents of actress Thora Birch .
