The registry (2003-2009)

The registry, also known for short as Regi or old registry , opened in 2003 in the eponymous registry for incoming letters from the postal administration in the former central administration building of Stadtwerke München at Blumenstrasse 28. Before the club moved in, the listed offices were already open to artists, Designers, directors, musicians, various start-ups and cultural projects as well as the Funky Kitchen Club have been rented out. The spacious club consisted of two floors , several bars, a stage and a stairwell. The large dance hall consisted of two levels, so that one could watch the dancers on the main dance floor from a gallery. There was also a second, more intimate dance room called the Secretariat .

The atmosphere of the club was shaped by the dusty old offices, which had the charm of an off-location. The large hall with the old counters and the clock on the wall was ascribed a "60s dining room flair", whereby the wooden paneling of the balcony "leaves the pain threshold behind so far that it is cult again". The club was operated by the American architect and drummer David Blake Walker.

In terms of music, internationally known techno and house DJs such as DJ Hell , Monika Kruse , Carl Craig , Kevin Saunderson , Theo Parrish Moodymann , Josh Wink , Marco Carola , James Holden , Baby Ford , Funk D'Void , LTJ Bukem put in the registry , Luciano , Bomb the Bass , Peter Kruder , Ellen Allien , Roland Appel , Jennifer Cardini , Henrik Schwarz , Dixon , Hans Nieswandt , Reinhard Voigt , Boys Noize , Solomun , Tiefschwarz , Mr. Oizo , Apparat , Richard Bartz , Acid Maria or DJ Koze as well as numerous acts of the Munich label International Deejay Gigolos , Compost Records , Gomma , Stock5 and Kranken durch Musique . The club also opened up for performances by artists from other genres such as Major Lazer , Grandmaster Flash , Mark E. Smith , Jazzanova or CocoRosie , who performed their first major concert here.

Well-known recurring events in the registry were the Rocktronic evenings and the Zombocombo events, which combined electronic music, film, stage design, shows and activities that, in contrast to the usual individual staging of the DJ in a pulpit, should create a unifying community experience for the guests. DJ Hell regularly organized his famous Bavarian Gigolo Nights in the registry , which he performed here for the first time in April 2004. In September 2009 the city was unexpectedly put up with "The party's over?" Posters and the old registry had to close due to the upcoming major renovation of the building for the purpose of resale.

The registry bar (2014-2017)

In November 2014 the registry at Müllerstraße 42 reopened, this time not as a large club, but as a smaller “bar with a dance floor”, with the bar on the ground floor and the 140 m² dance room in the basement. Musically, techno and house were still on the program. In contrast to the dusty 60s charm of the old registry, the registry bar was characterized by a more elegant interior design. At the new location there were soon problems with the neighbors because of the volume. The longstanding legal disputes with the neighbors were ultimately the reason why the Registratur Bar had to close in January 2017. The club opened an appeal against its closure and was allowed to reopen during this period from March 2017, but soon had to close for good. In October 2017, a bar called Perlwerk moved into the former premises of the Registratur Bar.

reception

The registry was one of the most famous Munich clubs of the 2000s and 2010s with regular reporting in national and Germany-wide media. The readers of the UK magazine Resident Advisor voted the club one of the world's top 100 clubs in 2008. The readers of De: Bug magazine voted the club among the top 20 clubs in 2005. In the Resident Advisor ranking, both Die Registratur and its successor Die Registratur Bar were counted among the most popular clubs in Munich even years after their closure. The Berlin magazine Tonspion chose the best music moment of 2009 in its annual best list: “When Schlachthofbronx took over the DJ desk from Major Lazer / Diplo in the Munich registry and the store literally exploded. It wasn't just the man from Philadelphia who was amazed. "
