action

Act 1 - The Council of the Elements

The young magician Sir X wants to find the mysterious Council of the Elements, which promises knowledge and power of infinite proportions. To do this, he performs a dangerous ritual, which connects him telepathically with the demon Eye, but which in the long term will bring him death. From now on he has visions that show him the way. His companion on the search for the council is the young knight Amon von Falkenfels.

Above the clouds of Murder

After X has performed the ritual in the Falkenfels Magic Academy, the city is attacked by Imperial troops. He manages to escape with Amon and Eye. They begin their journey with the flying ship Luftdrache , but their enemies seem to have followed them - a fellow passenger falls victim to a poison attack that apparently was aimed at Sir X. Now the task is to find the murderer among the passengers before he strikes again.

To lure him out, you fly through the realm of dream spiders. These magical beings living in the clouds feed on dreams and memories and weave the travelers into an illusory world in which the perpetrator can be safely identified; he turns out to be a shapeshifter who seems to be part of a larger conspiracy. Amon finally succeeds in freeing her from the web of dream spiders. Her queen Arachnae cuts the thread of his fate and thus makes him a free being, unaffected by predestination.

The Danbar Catacombs

The tattoo that X retained from his ritual begins to spread across his body. Should it reach his heart before he finds the council, it would mean his death. However, this is also accompanied by visions that lead him into the underground tunnel system under the city of Danbar. These dark catacombs with their traps and monsters have already become the undoing of many adventurers - not to mention the bloodthirsty dragon that lives in their hearts. So they hire the dodgy tour guide Draco, who shows them the way through the labyrinth, and X has been given a poem in a dream, which helps him to solve the riddles that block the way to the center.

After seven challenges, all of which have to do with the number seven, they find the treasure chamber in the center and are confronted with the dragon, who is none other than their guide Draco, who has assumed human form to make sacrifices in his cave to trick into. They succumb to him in battle, but when they pass out, the mysterious "wanderer" appears and kills the dragon.

The desert of eternity

In the desert region of Karakesch, the heroes are captured and sold as slaves in the bazaar. Amon must prove himself to be a gladiator in the arena, while a decadent rich merchant acquires X as a magical toy. In addition, it turns out that they have been pursued by the assassin Artemis since the beginning of their journey, who Amon finally faces in the arena. Fate also seems to have given him a bigger role, because after his defeat the hiker also saves his life.

Escaped from slavery, the heroes seek out Bastrabun, the titan of the earth, in the desert, who is under the spell of the powerful and vicious magician Nebahath. X succeeds in overcoming Nebahath and loosing his control, but only death can bring salvation to the wounded Titan. This also requires the help of the hiker.

The heart of the crystal forest

The crystal forest of Ristan is a wonder that is appreciated all over the world, but when the heroes arrive there, the village suffers from a bloodthirsty beast called the Red Death, which repeatedly tears people's hearts out. During his investigation, X discovers that the empire controls the local crystal mines and has kidnapped magicians there work as slaves. Because the crystals lead a life of their own, feed on magic and have created the red death as their guardian. Eventually there is a confrontation with the general of the imperial troops, who turns out to be the corpse lord in a duel with Amon. An undead creature whose magic weakens X considerably, leaving them only to flee. As stowaways on board an imperial airship, they manage to escape.

Beyond the sea of lost souls

Weakened by the crystals and the power of the corpse lord, X feels that he doesn't have much time to find the council. Your next stop is the gates of the underworld itself, but you can only get there by sea. They manage to find shelter on the dreaded pirate ship Eternity, but even here on board not everything is going well. As it turns out, the Eternity is a ghost ship whose crew has long been dead and is now under the control of a diabolical necromancer who is after the power and destiny dormant in X.

With the help of Leviathan, the titan of the sea, the heroes emerge victorious from this encounter and finally reach their goal in a cave: the gateway to the underworld.

The gate of the dead

Since no time passes in the realm of the dead, the countdown of X's life-threatening one is also stopped. But new dangers await the companions: Amon is deceived by illusions that persuade him that X is his enemy who is behind the attack on his homeland and who only manipulated him in order to sacrifice him for the completion of the ritual.

As soon as they have escaped the mad world, Cerberus, the merciless hellhound takes up their pursuit. In the city of the dead they meet their former leader Draco again, but here too he lures them into a trap again. Death itself finally overwhelms the heroes in his throne room and makes them his prisoners. However, he receives reports that someone else has entered his world ...

Act 2 - The Lord of the Dead

Before X set out to find the Council, a boy named Adran was born in the wilderness. Death is destined for him from the beginning, but he can always evade his fate. Because a major role in the game of cosmic powers awaits him.

The doomed child

Chronarius the Master of Fate and the Wanderer watch Adran's life. Although he was destined to die in the cradle, he escaped his fate and became a member of a gang of children in the streets of Tristan. But the Lord of the Underworld does not intend to let the doomed child slip away. The satanic Count Guildenstern tracks down Adran and kills him, but in the afterlife the boy also defies the will of death. The wanderer is impressed and takes him on and leads him to a new destination: Adran conquers death himself and redeems the souls enslaved by him. He also frees X and his companions, as well as the mysterious girl Mana, who also has a special fate.

The Magician's Tournament

Having escaped with the help of Adran the lord of the underworld, X meets his old teacher Sir Gavvendyl again. He wants to help X to find the hidden powers and truths inside him and lets him dive deep into his own memory ... into his youth when he took part in a magical tournament. In this forgotten episode of his life, he not only had an early encounter with Draco, but also with the devious seer Balthasar, who connected with him through a ritual that he would perform himself many years later in order to gain control over him gain.

Together with Master Gavvendyl he succeeded in breaking the spell and undoing the ritual, but the price was forgetting. Just in time, X realizes that the Gavvendyl who guides him through memory is actually death in disguise, which tries to elicit his hidden knowledge from him. This is how they learn the bitter truth: They were still in the underworld the entire time, as they were murdered shortly after their liberation.

The Frostworm's Fortress

Although X and Eye can escape from the island to which death had banished them, they are still trapped in its realm. In addition, her friend Amon was stolen from her memory in order to make him a loyal servant of the underworld ruler. As a Black Knight and accompanied by Draco, he now mercilessly pursues his former companions.

In the land of eternal cold, they are also threatened by the gigantic frost worm when they encounter the wonderful aura that promises them refuge in their ice fortress. But this refuge turns out to be a trap, aura also serves death. Before she can deliver X and Eye to him, however, they are freed from the frost worm, who turns out to be a guardian of the Council of the Elements and never wanted them harm.

The swamp of oblivion

Still pursued by the Black Knight Amon, their escape leads X and Eye into a seemingly endless swampy landscape. But not only the heat and the insects are draining their strength. Again and again the magician's memories begin to wane, he forgets that Amon is no longer his ally and gradually develops mentally back to the child. As it turns out, the swamp is an omnipresent living being, which taps its memories using magical flowers in order to gain access to its knowledge.

But his plan turns against him when the flowers also take Amon's false memories that death has given him. Together with Draco he frees the magician, but then falls back under the power of the underworld lord.

The Temple of Immortality

In a temple in the jungle, X hopes to find a cure for Amon as well as a way out of the realm of the dead. But the swamp entity is also on the way there. In the area of the temple, X 'magic no longer works, so that he can do little to counter the natives living here. They overpower him because their shaman senses evil in him and want to cook him alive when the swampy creature invades their village. It has stored X's darkest memories and created an evil doppelganger of the magician, fed by the souls of countless people whom X killed in his dark past. However, X succeeds in uniting with his split-off part and thus regaining his memories.

He enters the temple stronger than before, where a cranky professor first offers him help and Amon actually frees the soul of the Black Knight, but wants to take control of his body himself. However, the plan that the professor tries to implement with the help of the swamp entity fails. The two villains come to an end and the reunited heroes escape from the temple.

In the land of the dead rainbow

The heroes' journey continues over a rainbow bridge through various realms of the dead. Because their enemy, previously thought to be dead, turns out to be just a Reaper, one of a total of six different deaths. In doing so, Amon shows, although he is himself again, again and again signs of the merciless personality of the Black Knight. First they traverse Virul's realm of plague, where they face living scarecrows, talking ravens and ratmen. In the realm of Grave, ghouls and skeletal warriors seek their souls. The plane of Sun, the Lord of Beautiful Deaths, is a timeless paradise, but the heroes have to leave that behind, but at least leave the evil souls trapped in X there, thus cleansing him of their influence.

The peaceful forest of animal death Bad luck offers them more embarrassment than danger, but they get more than enough when they reach the transition to the world of the living. Because there Reaper has set up his army of the dead to overrun this world. Only the intervention of the Lord of the Dead, the true death, whom Reaper believed to have destroyed, can stop the invasion and grant the heroes the way back to life.

Act 3 - The heir to the Silver Star Empire

When Amon von Falkenfels was a little boy, the magical Samantha and her friend Romeo lived in his hometown. The two young people do not know that they will soon be the center of political intrigue between Counts Silberstern and Guildenstern.

'The heir to the Silberstern Empire

The life of Samanthas and Romeo changes from one day to the next when the immeasurably wealthy Count Silberstern comes to Falkenfels and reveals to Romeo that he is his son and heir. However, Samantha does not trust the sudden luck. Especially when the gold reserves are stolen from Falkenfels, forcing the city to become part of Silberstern's financial empire. In addition, she dislikes Romeo's fuss with the beautiful Catherine, who always ignored him before his new wealth. The rival's problem is solved because she is not a person, but a vicious nightmare, but nothing can be proven of the cracked silver star.

The Silberstern Manifesto

Forced to enter Silberstern's service, Samantha has to put aside her distrust of him as well as her vague feelings for his son Romeo, because the nightmare burns for revenge for their Queen Catherine and also on Silberstern's estate not everything is going well. Romeo's sister Alesia presses the newcomers with inappropriate permissiveness and Samantha finds out that the founder of the Silver Star dynasty once made a deal with the Fallen God, the Lord of Evil. Since then there has been a curse on the family that makes their husbands die young.

While Silberstern is on an expedition with his bodyguard Artemis to kill a hydra who is one of the guardians of the Council of the Elements, his rival Count Guildenstern allies himself with the Nachtmahren who are supposed to blow up the Silberstern estate for him. During the attack, the fallen god succeeds in escaping from his prison; Only through Silberstern's sacrifice does Samantha, Romeo and Alesia manage to escape in an airship. Before that, there is a fight with Guildenstern, in which Alesia reveals her true identity: She is not really Silberstern's daughter, but an ancient succubus. With her demon powers she defeats Guildenstern, who remains in the ruins of the estate, where the fallen God takes him into his service.

production

The first scripts were written in 2005, but the actual recordings of the production did not start until 2007. The first seven episodes appeared in 2010, followed by a three-year break. This fact was due to the reviews of the seventh episode and problems with the leading actors of the third act at the time, as well as an extension of the plot that the producer and author wanted to implement. This increased the playing time from over 30 hours announced at the time to over 70 hours. Most of the recordings for the production took place in Berlin's Livelive studio. In total, more than a dozen studios were involved in the recordings, among others these were Voicing, Livelive, Studiofunk, Orange Sound, Holysoft Studios, M-Sound and Rheinklang. The radio plays come with colored and illustrated booklets that present background information and explanations about the world of the Last Heroes. Illustrator Niko Geyer was responsible for the cover. In addition, two other illustrators are working on the graphic elaboration of the Last Heroes World: Honoel Ibardolaza, who is responsible for inlay graphics and comics, and Karsten Klintsch, who also supplies book and comic illustrations.

The radio play series features numerous actors known from film and television. The supporting roles are also predominantly cast, including Dieter Hallervorden .
