Dmitri Kvartalnov ( Russian Дмитрий Вячеславович Кварталнов * 25. March 1966 in Voskresensk , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player and current coach, who at the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League and at the Adler Mannheim in the German Ice Hockey League played. His son Nikita is also a hockey player.

Career

As a player

The 1.76 m tall winger began his professional career at Chimik Voskressensk in the Soviet Ice Hockey League before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft as 16th in the first round by the Boston Bruins .

From the Bruins, the left-handed shooter was first used with the San Diego Gulls , a farm team in the International Hockey League , from the 1992/93 season he was then in the NHL roster of the franchise from Boston. At the beginning of his career in the highest North American professional league, Kwartalnow was able to achieve at least one scorer point in each of his first 14 games , which is still the NHL record today. Already in the following season , however, the Russian came only sporadically used, so that it in 1994 for HC Ambri-Piotta in the Swiss National League A changed.

After two and a half years in Switzerland, he worked for the Austrian record champions EC KAC , which he left in 1999 for Adler Mannheim. The attacker could not really gain a foothold with the reigning German champions , so that he was transferred to Jokerit Helsinki in the Finnish SM-liiga after only 15 missions .

In 2000 Kwartalnow returned to Russia, where he played in the super league for Ak Bars Kazan , Severstal Tscherepowez and Krylya Sowetow Moscow . For the 2007/08 season, the striker finally returned to his hometown club, which now competed in the second-rate Wysschaja Liga .

International

For the Soviet national ice hockey team Dmitri Kwartalnow completed the world championships in 1989 and 1991 . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he took part again for the Russian team at the 1996 World Cup. The attacker scored seven goals and assists in a total of 25 World Cup games .

As a trainer

Dmitri Kwartalnow in July 2013

He then became head coach at HK CSKA Moscow and looked after the team until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Kwartalnow has been the head coach at Lokomotive Yaroslavl since October 2017 .
