history
In 1711 Prince Dmitri Konstantinowitsch Kantemir had a settlement with his name built on the land given to him by Tsar Peter I , which received town charter in 1782 and was made a district town in 1788 . To better distinguish it from the nearby city of Dmitrijew-Lgowski and Dmitrow near Moscow , it was given the name Orlowski in 1929 . By the German occupation on October 2, 1941 and the liberation by the Soviet Army only on August 12, 1943, Dmitrowsk was largely destroyed. In 1929 the city was renamed Dmitrowsk-Orlovsky to avoid confusion with the city of Dmitrov near Moscow. In 2005, however, it was renamed.
