Pokrovskoje ( Russian Покро́вское ) is an urban-type settlement in Oryol Oblast in Russia with 4432 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The village is just 70 km crow flies southeast of the Oblastverwaltungszentrums Oryol on Lipowez, a river, a catchment area of Bystraya Sosna .
Pokrovskoye is the administrative center of the Rajons Pokrovsky and seat and only town of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Pokrovskoye.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1625. In 1861 a Volost named after the village was formed in Ujesds Maloarchangelsk in the Orjol governorate , but its seat was initially in the village of Lipowez, 5 km to the east.
On January 18, 1935, Pokrovskoye became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. During the Second World War , the place was occupied by the German Wehrmacht in December 1941 and recaptured by the Red Army on February 18, 1943 . After that, the front line ran for almost six months a good 10 km west of the town, from where the Soviet counter-offensive in the northern part of the so-called Kursk Arc began in July 1943.
Since December 21, 1973 the place has the status of an urban-type settlement.

To the north Pokrovskoye is bypassed by the federal highway R119 Oryol - Lipetsk - Tambov . In a north-easterly direction, the regional road 54K-4 branches off to the neighboring district center Verkhovye, about 30 km away .
The nearest train stations are in Verkhovye on the Oryol - Jelets - Lipetsk - Grjasi route and in the neighboring district of Smijowka, also a good 30 km away, on the Moscow - Kursk - Kharkiv route ( Ukraine ).
