At the EHF Challenge Cup 2016/17 32 took Handball part -Vereinsmannschaften, who had qualified in the previous season in their home countries for the competition. It was the 17th edition of the Challenge Cup. The defending champion was the Portuguese club ABC Braga . The cup games started on November 18, 2016, the second final took place on May 27, 2017. In the final, the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon prevailed against the Romanian representative AHC Potaissa Turda.
The competition started with 16 games in round 3. All rounds were played in a knockout system . The winner of the final was the winner of the EHF Challenge Cup in the 2016/17 season.
