The École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales ( ESSEC for short ) is a French business school and grande école . It was founded by Jesuits in Paris in 1907 and moved its campus to Cergy , a western suburb of Paris , in 1973 . Other campuses are located in Puteaux ( La Défense ) and Singapore . The language of instruction is partly English and partly French , around 30% of the professors come from abroad.

In 1997, ESSEC became the first business school outside North America to be accredited by the AACSB .
In 2003, the MBA program received EQUIS accreditation.
- In 2014, the university took second place among the French business schools in the Le Point ranking.
- In 2014, the Master in Management program took third place worldwide in the Financial Times ranking, behind the University of St. Gallen and HEC Paris.
- In 2014, the Master in Finance program was ranked fourth worldwide in the Financial Times ranking.
- In the 2013 ranking of the Financial Times World Executive MBA, the ESSEC Mannheim Executive MBA ranks 45th worldwide.
- In the Financial Times ranking (2016), ESSEC took third place worldwide with the Master of Science in Management program (Grande Ecole) behind the University of St.Gallen and HEC Paris. The Master in Finance program came fourth in a global comparison.
